I think the last eight years or so has been the second Golden Era of the Blockbuster much like 1975 thru to 1982 or so was. In that seven year period you had Jaws, Close Encounters, Star Wars and Empire, Star Trek, Raiders, Alien, Superman, E.T., etc. Though having gotten the Titanic DVD...

That might be difficult then. I assumed he was only in his sixties.

Ian Holm should be in it as well. Remember since he's in possession of the Ring, he didn't age that much in between the events of The Hobbit and LOTR. Of course that's assuming he makes it soon as Holm hasn't aged that much since filming LOTR.

The thing is that a gross of less than $200 million is simply not that impressive for a film that cost that much and coupled with marketing, cost the better part of $300 million. It has to make around $600 million worldwide just to break even, and I'm sure it has a good chance of making that...

Also, Batman Begins has just passed the $200 million mark.

Valentine's Day weekend. Boxofficemojo lists that weekend as February 13-15. And/or maybe Oscar nominations were announced around that time and that gave it a push.

I think it's ironic that next to Jurassic Park and The Lion King, at 15%, Episode I's opening weekend is the lowest percantage of all films listed. Despite disappointing almost everyone, the film had some amazing legs!

What I find funny is that they say without the benefit of foreign grosses, the film would have lost money for the studio, despite the fact you could say the same thing about almost every film released. Very few films break even on domestic box office alone.

While WOTW is doing really well and I'm sure Paramount is really thrilled, especially with its worldwide grosses, but I always though it had a good chance of making $300 million (I even thought it might give ROTS a run for its money). The thing is that there are Spielberg movies that are big...

Paramount hasn't been doing too good lately. When you think of all the films that have made $300 million plus in the last ten years, not one of them, aside from Titanic (and before WOTW, only one film to do over $200 million), is a Paramount film. And the funny thing about Titanic is that it...

I believe there were sequels planned for the remake of Planet of the Apes, but despite a gross $180 million domestic (and another $180 million overseas) and costing $100 million to make, it was seen as something of a disappointment and it seems that plans for sequels have been deep sixed. It...

It's a bummer about Land of the Dead. I guess, considering its budget, it's doing okay, but it's sad to see it drop so drastically while Herbie Fully Loaded holds up well. Makes me wanna puke!

Fair enough, but do you really think a movie set in the future about psychics that can predict people committing crimes and thus arrest and punish them before doing anything and deals mainly with the dilemna on whether this is right or not is in any way in league (both in terms of story and mass...

I wouldn't go as far to call Minority Report an extravaganza. It had some action scenes and a mystery/thriller plot, but it nowhere near matches the sheer spectacle of WOTW. In terms of sci-fi, the tone and story of Minority Report is almost as removed from WOTW as Clockwork Orange was from...

I beg to differ with some of you guys. Yes it's doing well, and will probably have at least $100 million in the bank by Tuesday morning and could very well go on to $250-300 million, or maybe even more. But given the star, director, genre and release date, I don't think it was unrealistic...

Actually WOTW isn't doing that good. It's decent, and as with Batman Begins, if word-of-mouth holds up, it should do just fine. However, it's doing nowhere near the business that Spider-man 2 was doing last year, or Passion of the Christ for that matter, which opened in February. Also, it the...

I'm pretty sure if Universal was expecting LOTD to do Dawn of the Dead remake business, they would have spent a comparable amount of money on it. The Dawn remake had a budget of $26 million and a marketing budget of $20 million, according to boxofficemojo.com. LOTD has a budget of $15 million...

AOTC made just over a third its final take in its first four days. And that is a film that's generally regarded with having poor legs. I'm sure it's very possible ROTS could drop off significantly over the next weeks, regardless of positive word of mouth. It's still a "I gotta see it now"...
