Guess my iTunes digital of Tootsie (from the Columbia 100 bundle ) will probably (eventually) get upgraded to 4K? That's probably good enough for me (until/unless all the major/MA-eligible digital platforms die/reneg, LOL)...
Not sure I really "need" the other 2 on 4K disc though, but...
I'm gonna wait for reviews at least for Aliens before buying since I already have a decent BD of that. Probably gonna wait for reviews of The Abyss and maybe even True Lies as well. IF the reviews on them suck (due to DNR or whatever), I may just wait for them to hit the bargain bin first...
Yeah, that figures given their HK cinema origins.
Seriously doubt any HK films, especially nothing very recent, would ever offer much above 1080p rez.
Production and photographic (technical) polish/bling had definitely never been their forte. In very many cases, you probably wouldn't want...
True or not (re: Aliens in 4K), probably should still greatly temper expectations a whole ton... because Cameron tends to love himself heavy doses of DNR/grain-removal, so 4K may not actually yield much, if any, meaningful improvement over the old BD and might possibly even have more grain...
Well, if so, then very glad I didn't end up taking the plunge on the BD set like I originally planned, LOL... though I really wonder if there's really much, if anything, to gain w/ these in 4K. Afterall, HK cinema industry ain't exactly known for very high quality productions (quite that...
IF nothing else, 4K (on BD100) should afford it much more bandwidth to handle all the extremes it could need to look its best I imagine. Should be very interesting to see what Fincher ends up giving us... and there may well be a nice extra going into much of those details on the remaster...

You need all the gory details (and darkness, rain and grime!) in brilliant 4K/DV glory afterall... ;):P
I don't really recall the bleach bypass look done for the original theatrical run and earliest physical media (as I've only ever seen the old non-anamorphic DVD once or twice back in the late...
Pretty sure they're still doing stuff in-house. Maybe not quite as prolifically as in decades past, but pretty sure they still are under Grover Crisp (as RAH can probably attest... if he sees this post).
We probably wouldn't be getting (occasional) stellar 4K disc releases from them...
I vaguely remember that show (and its heroes) fondly as a kid back in early-to-mid-70's Hong Kong -- it was extremely popular in HK around then. Sorta like a precursor/predecessor to the Power Rangers I think... except they usually only featured one or maybe two of them at a time IIRC, not a...
Ah, ok. Definitely strange since there wasn't the usual edited timestamp like showing now (for something changed more than a few minutes after posting). That usually means a mod changed it. Oh well, no big deal...

Normally, I certainly agree... though there's been increasing chatter/hope of Cameron flicks (again) lately just because of Avatar... and then I saw @Alex.C's posts just before yours mentioning hopes/waiting for Gravity and Aliens...
And very strangely, now I see his posts have apparently...
Ah, ok, I just saw your comment (immediately) following the couple that were hoping/waiting for Gravity and Aliens and didn't realize you were just referring to some earlier referenced titles instead...

Where are those announcements (for Gravity and Aliens 4K)? I don't see them. Am I missing something? Are they in the Kino thread, which I haven't checked yet (because I'm apparently missing notifications for that thread yet again :P)?

Well, the existing BD is quite old now w/ an old VC-1 encode (w/ mid-level bitrates) that was pretty good for its time, but maybe a bit long in the tooth by today's standards, NVM 4K. Given the material, even if there isn't a whole lot of actual details above 2K in the source elements (besides...
I'm not that into GG, but BDs might still yield better PQ just because of possibly better encoding/compression/higher-bitrate. Personally, as I mentioned earlier, just randomly binging this kind of fare on whichever HD streaming platform/service is preferable to me -- IMHO, that's really one of...
I have the latter two on BDs as well, but only the 60's Batman on Vudu... and I've actually been a tad more inclined to randomly jump in (and out) w/ Batman on Vudu than the others on disc just because that's much quicker and more convenient (even though the latter two are definitely actually...
The (older) Hal Roach's Our Gang/Little Rascals series, OTOH, would IMHO be a better choice to own on BD these days since they're much harder to come by in good (enough) quality, especially if you want uncut/uncensored, however/wherever compared to something like I Love Lucy...
Still, if I...
Not sure what other TV series you're thinking, but these aren't serial, but very much episodic like most (particularly older) TV sitcoms, so they're certainly quite-to-very rewatchable (w/out devoting lots of time)... if you like such. But I find they're also very rewatchable in completely...
Why not just try it beforehand? I'm sure you can easily find a few episodes at the usual places like YouTube or some of your favorite streaming platforms/services or whichever cable channel. Probably just about any few random episodes should easily do.
These days I'd rather just buy something...
In truth, there's probably really absolutely zero reason to bother w/ a 4K disc of this unless they go back and redo the whole thing w/out nearly so much scrubbing. And even then, there may simply be not much to gain in 4K, except for better encoding and bitrates to deal w/ the grain, if...
One might hope for a little less scrubbed version I guess... I mean (the BD of) Aliens wasn't quite as scrubbed afterall... and they have made some tweaks in between BD releases of T2 before IIRC...

Wait. Dr. Who series came out on 4K already? Not that I'd "need" anything of Dr. Who to be in 4K myself...
Well, you did say "and all these other big franchises", which should include the Tolkien ones plus Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Game of Thrones (if including recent-ish, epic TV...
Presumably, they'll add back all the scrubbed fine details/textures/etc... and a very "healthy" dose of fake grain to boot this time around... ;):P
