OTOH, I've been wanting to go much more than I did for the couple decades before the pandemic (and even saw Dune 2x at the big Lincoln Square IMAX in Manhattan). I'd be going more often if I could round up my movie-going posse (or my family) more often -- still not crazy about going...
That one was just ~$340M domestically, which seems a bit underwhelming for that franchise... even if still pretty substantial...
I also forgot about The Batman, which did ~$370M domestically.
I would think Thor will likely beat Dr Strange's ~$410M domestic gross and maybe also Top Gun...
But wasn't 2021 basically just 1/2 a year's worth (although they tried to cram more delayed/holdover movies in less time)? I seem to recall theaters largely staying closed until mid/late-June or so and then gradually ramped up starting w/ Black Widow in July(?) -- there were just a few people...
I'm monitoring the situation and reassessing myself (for Spider-Man... and maybe Matrix) here in the NYC/Brooklyn. Mostly not too worried for myself and can just find very under-attended matinee screenings if I want/need, but I don't generally want to go by myself either, so that doesn't often...
Interesting... even though the new Bond flick isn't out yet (at least in USA). Guess the Venom sequel did especially well for them... though I'm thinking Oct probably isn't normally a big month for the box office...

My question would be if there are all that many, if any, Starbucks in Vermont, hehheh... ;) :D
Hmmm... according to this, there are only 8 in VT, which doesn't surprise me at all...
https://spoonuniversity.com/lifestyle/the-number-of-starbucks-in-every-state
... although Google (via their...
Vermont isn't that big whether in land area, especially non-woodland, or population, especially density-wise, so not really that surprising me thinks. Plus the locals may not like big corporate getting in there that much...
They seem to have plenty of fiddlers/fiddling (and fiddle shops and...
More generous than Universal's deal? Sure, but Warner probably had to throw them a bone after they screwed just about every business partner w/ their dictate of zero theatrical window for 2021 (w/ no actual commitment to return to normal beyond)...

No doubt that's gonna be true for at least some of us, but in those cases, we were probably already rarely going anyway. Certainly, that's been me. I'd think most people who (aren't HT enthusiasts and) were still going often just before the pandemic will still want to go back... though...
IF they opened in NYC, I would've considered going to see Tenet either at the Lincoln Sq IMAX or maybe the Battery Park City Regal. But alas...
Guess I'll probably splurge a little and buy it on 4K disc at whatever price during release week...

They've essentially been calling it for quite awhile now... as early as July when the market permanently recovered and started toward making additional gains, LOL...:rolleyes:

FWIW, considering this, it's highly unlikely theaters in NYC itself would reopen anytime soon:

Not even sure what...
No doubt it's a major drag for that part of the populace and economy, but despite that, there are actually still a lot of people who can actually afford $20 on something like this.
Afterall, if we're only talking on the order of 400K copies (or even 1M), we're talking much less than 1% of the...
IF they release it just in time for the holiday shopping season, I'm sure that won't be too much an issue.
Pretty sure people who are remotely interested and can afford the $15-20 for the disc won't have trouble buying it online by this point.
Those who aren't already familiar or remotely...
Hard to predict in this case.
It wouldn't be the usual kind of blind buy under the circumstance. I'm inclined to think there might be a modest spike for Tenet.
For instance, there are a lot of NYC folks (and maybe folks in a few other similar city situations) who might consider doing that...
But at least in your case (based on your prior comments here or elsewhere), that would probably also have been true if this was pre-pandemic 2019, which is the relevant issue. You're not likely representative of those who would generally buy most new release titles of interest on disc at...
Agreed... but in large part because they aren't reopening here in NYC AFAIK -- NYC population nearly matches the rest of the state (and exceeds that if we're talking the larger metro area) and could certainly change the narrative somewhat.
NYC doesn't really fit what you describe... because...
Could probably get that at the occasional summer outdoor screenings at nearby Prospect Park over here in Brooklyn... just w/out the cars. Actually, sounds like they might be a bit better at the Park...

Do we actually know for a fact they didn't consider it at all?
No idea about your new neighborhood in LI, but in NYC, there would probably also be zoning regs that might block such. And at least some parts of LI seem to have their own at times onerous local ordinances that might block such...
Guess it's mostly the locals making the most of this time when people aren't flying much from out-of-state (yet)...
Still, they running on limited capacity though it's not too clear what that is -- that article suggested it might be somewhere between 20-30% of normal full capacity.

What's the saying? Beggars can't be choosers? ;)
Ah well... The paying customers enjoyed and appreciated it (particularly under the circumstance). That's probably all that really matters... although I wonder what kind of arrangements such drive-ins have w/ the studios, et al to be...
Maybe I should reconsider as well and try going again during my kid's mid-winter break next Feb -- we were there this past mid-Feb. Should be cheaper than usual, and I can probably cancel if it looks like they'll get too busy again...
Too bad they wouldn't have the new Guardians of the Galaxy...
Maybe I'll do the unusual and buy the UHD disc on release day (at whatever release day price).
I finally got to watch some 4K streams (of both Black Panther and Aquaman) on my nice, new Epson FP, and I'm not too happy w/ the banding I see (even from MoviesAnywhere w/ some of the highest...
Maybe it won't be that long... since schools are finally all reopening, including here in NYC, and the Covid-19 situation will very likely spike at least somewhat.
For instance, NY just had its highest number of new positive cases since June exceeding 1K yesterday (as reported today) even...
It's not clear what exactly that estimated "90%" are since the detailed data are actually not available. They certainly aren't all inactive virus, but likely many-to-most of them are just too low count at the time of testing to be contagious (or for victims to feel any effect). Could mean many...
They're not false positives per se. Just not likely contagious (at least not at the time of testing).
The real problem is that flawed idea/sense of what "positive" means. Generally, all this stuff operates in a continuum, but we, especially bureaucrats, tend to prefer the quick-and-simple...
