RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

Exactly. And honestly, IMHO, those of us who seem to feed off of such half-baked, sometimes even tabloid-like, reviews are just encouraging them to go further down that road... Now that Matt's reiterated his dismay w/ Farhad's "review", that reminds me of Ken Rockwell... _Man_

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

This was more or less my point about the earlier Xoom reviews as well. There's just some sort of laziness and/or inevitable bias in just about all these online reviews near as I can tell. None of them seem to apply the due diligence needed for quality reviews. There's probably just too much...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

One thing just came to mind. Does the PlayBook OS actually inherit the robust(?) realtime OS architecture of QNX? I honestly don't know anything about QNX, but if this tablet can do true real-time concurrency stuff, then that's one notable business oriented (maybe even mission critical)...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

Hmmm... How do all these tablets handle main memory? Do they all use some reasonable virtual memory scheme? Maybe the Playbook's web browser and/or (virtual?) memory management is not playing nice in that revision of the software. But given the limited amount of flash memory available for...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

I'm not too convinced that the VM capability for that will work well enough in actual practice though -- at least not w/ their first try at this. It's very rare for that kind of thing to work well in their first iteration/gen -- heck, in many cases, it *never* works all that well even after the...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

Sure, I can see why Apple, RIM, et al. *should* require some reasonable proof of ID, and maybe require different levels of proof depending on what you actually do, but then again, I guess Apple prefers the more direct, arguably more effective approach of their thorough app review process instead...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

I still remember Bloomberg requiring me to sign off on something like that as part of my job interview process about a decade ago -- and I basically told them "no, thanks" even though they were ready to offer me the job, but still needed me to sign off on that first. _Man_

But wouldn't you need to pay extra to get tethering for data service via your choice of wireless provider anyway? So if you get this, chances are you'll still end up paying for additional service anyway -- and that's besides whatever data plan quotas you might have. I know my company's not...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

I wonder if my company will do something for the Playbook since most of our clients are corporate clients needing financial data services -- we already provide some sort of mobile app for the BBs though it's nothing fancy AFAIK. I would imagine if somebody cannot convince Bloomberg and/or...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

EDIT: Heheh... Looks like Matt responded while I "stepped away" for a bit in between writing my own response. Hanson, For business presentation purposes, no easily portable screen is ever big enough -- unless all you do is pitch stuff during your commuter flight or something like...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

There aren't much of any *real* productivity apps on any of these platforms from the various app stores near as I can tell -- all the *real* stuff are either included on the devices or (can) come from somewhere other than these app stores. There are already too many devices vying in the...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

If that's how you see success w/ the app store (based on your personal experience), then that "business" model just won't fly for long. Usually, content/software ends up commoditizing the hardware because content/software is ultimately where it's at. But if there's no $ in the...

RIM introduces it's tablet.. the PlayBook

BTW, who knows? Maybe RIM will actually become the Bose of the PDA/smartphone/tablet world. At this point, it sure seems like that.   _Man_
