That does sound like very good news. :emoji_thumbsup: Certainly, there's nothing "moribund" about it considering the context. Of course, like Crawdaddy said, hopefully, the industry will work effectively to promote the format to the masses in the year (or two) ahead... _Man_

Amen to that. ;) :D I think I just need to spend more time watching (and catching up on) my movie collection and practicing the violin instead :P :D -- Lord knows I need the practice, LOL. I'm bummed though that I missed out on the 3:10 to Yuma sales that went on this past week between...

Now, we're talking. That was really my point (more or less) all along although I didn't lay out any specifics like petitions and such. Do something more productive than merely bitching on here to *us* about how BD is doomed, if you really want BD to succeed (at least to be more than just an...

You're right of course that it's not just a M$ thing. BUT if they bring it on in the very near future in a way akind to a format war against Blu-ray, then I certainly have somebody to blame. It all depends on what exactly they do w/ it. _Man_

I don't know. It reads almost like a threat against physical media. :P I guess we'll see come Christmas time. I really hope we don't end up w/ a Blu-ray vs download/VOD war in 2009. :frowning: I will be *reeeeally* pissed at Micro$oft (and possibly Toshiba), if that happens. I...

I was tempted to reply a few times in the last several days, but have now adopted that setiment. It's all pretty pointless now. I would *not* really consider the few posters "trolls", but it's probably best to treat such posts as such anyway -- I'll gladly engage them in other kinds of...

Aye. I agree w/ most here that BD hardware pricing seems fair enough considering the context of the whole thing -- and like most, it's not because I don't want to pay less, but it's about what works out best in the long haul. And yes, I'd also like to see BD software pricing come down too...

Personally, I wonder what Toshiba is going to do w/ that Cell processor manufacturing plant they very recently bought from Sony (after bowing out from HD-DVD). There's no mention of that in the WSJ article. Are they really *only* going to use it to supply chips to Sony for the PS3?? That doesn't...

Huh? Maybe my points weren't clear to you, but I *did* give you very good reasons why you were comparing apples to oranges. Yes, they're both fruits and may have seeds in them and can be sweet and/or tart/sour, but they are not quite the same things. In any case, you yourself have repeatedly...

RE: the talk about the VHS vs Beta war doing fine for a long while (as reasoning to think the HDD vs BD war could do fine indefinitely), I don't think you can directly compare that to this format war because of 2 fundamental reasons: 1. There were not pre-existing home video formats to...

Informed consumers just know what's going on and make decisions accordingly. In this case, it's *not* about being informed or not. It's about what we actually want. Very many of us got what we wanted: one format. And there are indeed lots of benefits to having just one format, despite what...

It's partly because the masses tend to treat music as muzak nowadays. Most people don't pay enough attention to the music to find the quality differences appreciable in practice. Part of this might be due to the fact that music has been w/ us for thousands of years, but the cinema isn't anywhere...

Honestly, I don't see what's so wrong w/ Sony essentially doing some revenue sharing w/ their business partners. It's not like they're building some sort of evil monopolistic empire here. They are far from being taken to court for serious anti-trust violations as far as I can tell. Get over...

I suspect at least some portions of the various big "payout" deals Sony cut w/ the other studios, particularly Warner, probably involve subsidizing such expenses. Even if the specific language of those deals don't stipulate that some portions of the $$$ must be used for such expenses, in the...

I think some folks are being a bit too much glass half-empty again w/ the future of HDM or w/ the necessity for a single, united HDM format. Sure, I don't expect HDM will be as successful as DVD has become, but some of the doom and gloom seem to be partly based on bad analogies. For instance...
