I think the issue was mostly that an unknown actress was nominated for a film no one had heard of. Doesn't really fit with the glamorous movie-star mystique that the Academy wants to maintain.

Most of the noms had relatively modest bumps this weekend. EEAAO had the biggest gross of the re-releases or expansions, but Women Talking had the best per-screen average (though I think this is the first weekend it's had a wide-ish release).

Interesting that they went with Top Gun for a BP nom, but snubbed Wakanda Forever which seems to have the more prestigious noms in other categories, including Best (Supporting) Actress. Though I guess TG does have the screenplay nom. Edited to note category is Supporting Actress.
