I'm usually more distracted by the shark's jaw folding up when it brushes the boat. But it's still a very tense scene.

Don't know of any behind the scenes issues. Probably just a moment used to ratchet up the tension when Brody feels relief to see his son safe, just to find out that his younger son is not when Mike reveals, "Sean's out there."

When I was younger, I also enjoyed J2 more than the original, as I thought the original was too slow. More shark action in J2. Must be the shark worked better for this one, and the shark FX also looked better, IMO. Which made it more perplexing that the shark effects were so bad in Revenge...

Plus, for those with the ability, you can at least watch J3 in 3D blu.

It created a great mood and tension for the film, but on the other hand it enforced and propagated the attitude that sharks are evil killing machines and should all be destroyed.

This one always freaked me out, too, since you can see the shark "chewing" and it seems like there's a "crunch" sound effect on the soundtrack.

I think his intention was comparing the Part 2's in each series to the later sequels. In both series, Part 2 is pretty good. The further sequels, not so much (though I like Alien 3 better than most).
