Perhaps because overall the TOS movies were better received than the TNG movies? Besides I would love to see a TOS era Enterprise on the silver screen!
I agree John. Seeing different actors playing the same characters is much more palatable after watching some of the fan produced episodes such as those from The New Voyages.
It depends how much they are going to ignore. At least here they are letting you know up front. With Enterprise they pretended to follow canon and then traipsed all over it.
I was always intrigued by the Pike era so it would be interesting. The dynamics would have to change with Pike's character as Hunter played him pretty rigid cutting into Spock's territory. I sure would like to see some version of the handover of the Enterprise from Pike to Kirk in the new...
This site has the following report: http://stxi.blogspot.com/2006/08/tre...t-time-as.html Looks like STXI could be titled - Kirk Begins. Maybe Gary Mitchell will be in the mix.
No problem Nelson. We are on the same page as far as Trek goes. BTW here is a link to some rare TOS material: http://www.startrekhistory.com/restoration/index.html The feature on how they created the Tholian blows my mind. Amazing effect considering how little they spent on it.
Nelson I really enjoyed your post. It was very heartfelt and I understood what you are saying as TOS is the series of my generation as well. Besides the three leads, TOS had a sense of fun and wonder about being in space the other series never did - partly because they were all bogged down by...
As Nelson pointed out several posts ago, I encourage everyone to check out the New Voyages website. Its a fan produced continuation of the original series 5 year mission. The production qualities are quite high. The acting is not professional but it is interesting to see other people...
I have seen those Nelson. The production values are very high. The thing that hampers those efforts is too much referencing of the original series. I agree that if you watch those efforts you can appreciate the attempt to recapture the original series.
Nice conjecture, but all conjecture. I would buy that if there was at least a throw away line that Cochrance had moved to Alpha Centauri to get away from it all. The Companion altering his personality is a real stretch. In the end, everything stated is rationalizations. All I would have like...
I assume you mean to the TNG series only? The disregard of continuity and/or the sensibilities of fans of the original series rears its ugly head again. Zefram Cochrane was from Alpha Centurai and the one shown in First Contact bares no resemblance to the one shown in TOS. That deducts marks...
Even worse Matt - Nemesis is a poor remake of the TOS Khan movie. Your summation of the 6 TOS is bang on as well. TOS had a sense of fun and optimism, naive perhaps, that was never recaptured.
This thread put me in a reflective mood. I have just finished spinning ST6 and going through most of the extras. Its that old saw - you don't appreciate what you have till its gone. It is a real treat to watch the original cast end on such an upnote with their last movie. I feel for TNG fans...
The article in a local paper mentions Abrams but also states that nothing definite has been decided as far as which era or characters the movie will cover.
Thrilled with the choice of creative team but really dislike the premise they have to work with. Start fresh, with a new cast and setting/ship that has no ties to any of the TV series, and give the franchise some creative elbow room.
Any movies going forward need to be original and not based on any of the TV series. This would free up and dispose of all the baggage that any of the TV series carry. Such an approach would also free up the need to write in moments for the lesser lights and give back much more needed...
