MP3 stutter since converting to NTFS

Well, my CPU is routinely at 100% since i run seti@home in the background. The command-line version of it is very good at just using what any other program isn't; I can easily play 3d-heavy games etc with seti running and not see any real drops in frame rates. Winamp plays without a hitch, as...

MP3 stutter since converting to NTFS

Good to hear! ACPI on a stationary PC is mostly redundant anyway. I have the latest Liveware drivers on my machine at home and have no problems with Winamp so hopefully you should still have blip-less sound with the latest drivers too. ------------------ /Kimmo

MP3 stutter since converting to NTFS

Rob, I think you'll find that they strongly disapprove of disabling ACPI when you've already installed Win 2K with ACPI. The reason for that is that if you do, in some cases you will never be able to boot the system again without a complete reinstall... Happened to a friend. Installing in...

MP3 stutter since converting to NTFS

Did you try any other MP3 players? http://www.ultraplayer.com http://www.sonique.com "#%#"#¤"#¤!! I wish the board would stop fouling up when I add an URL to the message. Getting old with all this hand-editing after posting. ------------------ /Kimmo [Edited last by Kimmo Jaskari on...

MP3 stutter since converting to NTFS

I was referring to a dual boot where Win 98 and Win 2K are on the same partition. If you do that the partition has to be FAT32 since Win 98 doesn't speak NTFS. Glad you got it working better. ACPI is a great idea but it does require the PCI cards to be extremely "well behaved" for want of a...

MP3 stutter since converting to NTFS

For the record... ACPI, everything on IRQ 9 and Soundblaster Live sounds like a recipe for SERIOUS trouble to me. I make a point of disabling ACPI in the BIOS on desktop machines prior to installing the OS, especially Win 2K (at least on my own machines). You don't really need it and chances...

MP3 stutter since converting to NTFS

Been running Win 2K with NTFS for many months and MP3 playback (with every player I've tried including Winamp) is flawless. It's not NTFS per se (obviously)... My gut feeling also points at the SB live. Check for conflicts etc. What IRQ is it at? Is anything else at the same IRQ? Etc...
