    Mark, It turns out that the network / Internet update for firmware 2.0 hasn't yet been enabled for the RCA HD-DVD players. It should be in the next week or so. If you don't want to wait,you can download the firmware to a CD and update that way.

    Yes, the firmware works on the RCA HDV5000. The firmware will preserve the branding info as well -- it recognizes whether you have the Toshiba or the RCA.

    This is incorrect. The Toshiba HD-DVD players only re-encode the new advanced codecs into DTS for output over legacy outputs like optical / toslink. With HDMI 1.1, you get the full TrueHD 5.1 audio. Using HDMI gets you the best sound quality possible. Here's what happens on a HD-DVD...
