Is DVD-A over and done with?

Richard, obviously which format sounds better is a matter opinion. Even then, we don't really have the ability to compare the two formats properly given the lack of like software and the fact that many comparisons involve separate DVD-Audio and SACD players.

Is DVD-A over and done with?

Steve, Pioneer will be releasing the Elite DV-45A universal player by the end of the year. The early word is that it will retail for around $500. Perhaps the street price will be in the ballpark for you.

Is DVD-A over and done with?

Mike, oops again. I thought you were saying it was a new release. For some reason, I never heard anything about it. It sounds totally unfamiliar to me, but I'll have to check it out to see if it jogs my memory. Perhaps I saw it in stores when it came out but it didn't phase me.

Is DVD-A over and done with?

Mike, it was not a typo at the time. For some reason, I thought Magnification was an older Yes album. Oops! I didn't know they had a new album out. Somehow, I never heard anything about it. I was in a couple record stores this weekend and didn't see the CD with the new releases. One store had...

Is DVD-A over and done with?

John, No, I was addressing you. My previous post was intended to support your post to Lee about SACD and DVD-Audio on lesser systems and what the average listener will or will not buy. In retrospect, perhaps I should have started that post with "John, I agree with you." Reggie, As you...

Is DVD-A over and done with?

John, impressing friends who are casual music fans with SACD on our better-than-average systems is one thing. Having them run out and upgrade their systems and/or buy an SACD player is something completely different. In the nearly two years I have had SACD in my home, I have had many friends...

Is DVD-A over and done with?

Philip, excellent post. Very down to earth and real-world. I still contend that the majority of people do not have home-theater set-ups, but the majority of those that do have them for movies, not music. Honestly, how often do any of us run into casual music fans who complain about the sound...

Is DVD-A over and done with?

Reggie, thanks for the tip. $25.95 for DVD-Audio discs was obnoxious before the price drop. Now it's blasphemy!

Is DVD-A over and done with?

Rob, thanks for the information. That's great news. Circuitcity.com has been selling Warner DVD-Audio discs for $13.99 each ever since it dropped the retail price a few weeks back. Unfortunately, Best Buy is still selling the discs for $22.99 each. Circuit City does not sell DVD-Audio...

Is DVD-A over and done with?

It will be very interesting to see how many of those titles listed for release on July 30th will actually come out. Note the two Warner titles on that list. Warner has done nothing with DVD-Audio in months. I am skeptical about that release list. The Silverline titles will probably come out, but...
