Lucas sold out simple as that. He took his 1970's masterpiece Star Wars (not ANH as posters keep referring to), then spent decades fiddling with it whilst making a lot of money. Then sold out to Disney for a lot more money. They in turn will keep churning out films for fans and make a lot more...
I think it must be a generational thing. I enjoyed the original Star Wars, Superman, and Star Trek films but don't like any of the retreads. JJ is a director who does the studios bidding. Nothing original enough to frighten the box office.
I saw the original and it was ground-breaking. I have seen the trailers, read the reviews and Lucas's comments and I do find myself agreeing with him that it is a retread. I just can't find the enthusiasm to see it. It might just be me but I didn't like JJ's retread of Star Trek either.
