Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Yes -- ALL Panasonic players (dating back to their debut Blu-ray player circa 2007, the DMP-BD10A, which I STILL own and use in the bedroom, albeit on its last legs) force you to pull up the picture adjustment menus WHILE a disc is spinning. There is no main settings menu access for these as it...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

I know the Reavons have one thing in common with the Panasonics -- you can only access the picture adjustment controls (for parameters like contrast, color, noise reduction et al) when a disc is playing. This is a ridiculous implementation on Reavon's part, especially since the rest of the...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

I suppose it's user needs, then; we still own a MASSIVE DVD library and rent them every week from Redbox, so DVD functionality is very important to us. Because the Panasonics cannot zoom in on any discs, like the other players mentioned can, we can't play our non-anamorphic DVDs back correctly...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

The other brands are all based on the same MediaTek processing chip that's in the UDP-203/205 -- that's why I mentioned them in the same sentence. As such, they share a lot of the same architecture, right down to their setup menus (some are slightly different from one another; the Cambridge...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Amen to that, brother. There are a TON of other things the Reavons/Oppos/Cambridge CXUHD/Pioneers/Pannde did that the Panasonics do not -- a lot to go into and list here.

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Indeed, the Panasonics have no "resume playback" functionality -- one of the MYRIAD of things I LOATHE about my UB9000 -- unless a Blu-ray or UHD Blu-ray has been authored with the "RESUME: YES/NO" prompt which appears the next time you insert the disc... That is something SO missed in the Oppo...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Mark, I think you have some undue frustration here, or at least with regard to who you're directing it towards -- I was only trying to help by suggesting you may not want to leave the player paused for so long. I am, otherwise, in COMPLETE AND UTTER agreement with you about this stupid feature...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Well, someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the playing and pausing are the same when it comes to the laser -- just seems to me that leaving it on a static pause for that long couldn't be good for the internals as opposed to just letting a disc spin. I could be off here, but...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

To be honest, I wouldn't keep a player paused for 40 minutes, either -- it CAN'T be good for the laser...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

From what I understand, the Panasonic auto power off feature was based upon an energy mandate for their sales in Europe; the UB9000, in particular, wasn't supposed to come to America initially, but when it finally did, Panasonic never issued an update for North American units, which was stupid...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

LOL -- I remember you voicing your opinion about the Panasonics' stupid auto-off feature, Mark, here and on other forums, which I totally agreed with. They STILL haven't made a firmware update available to fix this on the UB9000, at least. You have explained why you need a feature like this to...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Outside of the HDR Optimizer -- which only works for HDR10 content anyway -- and the HCX processor's chroma upsampling multi-tap process (which richens colors), there isn't much I'd give up in the way of substituting the 9000 for the CXUHD in my system, given the CXUHD's myriad functionality...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

I can agree with that to a point; for $700/$800, I thought the Cambridge CXUHD was a good choice and a great UDP-203 substitute when it was available (I own one).

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Yeah, it would put it precisely where the Panasonic UB9000 is, and I don't believe they have the same build quality (though the Reavons do offer more flexbility in terms of settings/functionality).

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

From what I am being told on a UK-based forum... it will cost between 150 to 200 Euros more than the existing UBR-X100!

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Yes, that is a pic of the X100 I provided; it does look ridiculously under-gunned compared to the others, which was my point. I own the 9000, and from what I am being told, the build quality of these Reavons -- even the premium over-$1K X200 -- can't hold a candle to that of the Panasonic...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Was just reportin' on what I read; it is kinda embarassing, though, when you see what's in the Oppos/Cambridge and Panasonic compared to the Reavons... It's like this: Compared to this: The Cambridge CXUHD looks a bit stingy inside compared to its Oppo cousin probably because the...

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

Indeed, Martin; if you hop onto the UK-based AVForums and go into the Reavon thread there, you'll see where members are getting beyond heated when the conversation turns to the fact that the chassis innards of these units are pretty much empty.

Reavon UBR-X200 4K UHD Universal Disc Player

What's even stranger is that I thought the Panasonic DP-UB9000 was out of the stratosphere with its $999 price tag....and now that seems like a proverbial bargain compared to the X200. From everything I have read and all the discussions I've had with people in other forums for months now about...
