Also, just for the record, I made it to 65 films, 35 short of 100. Although 2 of those, Andrei Roublev and Sunset Boulevard, I watched after the New Year. I look forward to the next list. Hopefully I will have watched all the films before 2012 with or without the list to guide me. :)

By the way, Pascal. We are fortunate in that Black God, White Devil happens to be one of Francis Ford's favorite films. Hopefully Zoetrope will get this released on dvd for us someday (maybe through Fantoma). It played at the San Francisco Int'l Film Festival about 5 years ago. Very...

I hadn't realized that the film was that old. I know that the soundtrack was added much later (and made by her second? husband). I guess you could say that this was the at the start of the modern American avant-garde movement. Certainly there are older avant-garde films (cinema was...

I'm sure someone who knows more about Maya Deren can write a more informative post, but here goes. Maya Deren was part of the American Avant-Garde movement, which began for the most part in the 60s. She is perhaps the most famous, but other names come up: Kenneth Anger, Stan Brakhage, Andy...

I love La Terra Trema. We got to watch a 35mm print of LTT and The Leopard in my Visconti class last semester (the company we rent 16mm from couldn't get ahold of the 16mm prints). We also read the novels, and the book that LTT is based on, I Malavoglia, is fantastic.

No, it's not fine. There are 19 titles tied for 41st place, and 35 tied for 91st place. This means that the next film after 41 should be ranked 60, and the next film after 91 should be ranked 126--neither of which are the case. Or, if you count the whole list, there are only 129 titles. I...

I just noticed that there's a problem with the list. It's missing 2 titles. There are in fact only 129 films listed there. There should be another film tied for 41st place, or ranked number 60. And there should be another film tied for 91st place, or ranked number 126. Does anyone have the...

I've got 46 left to go. Hopefully with the recent rereleases of Week-End and Performance, DVD editions will come.

I looks a little like Jung Woo abandoned this thread. Maybe we should start it again, and keep the list updated, since none of us can modify the original post. Anyone?

I've used the list at the front of this thread quite often, to determine who owns what amongst some of the best films. I still haven't seen some 76 of the films. In any case, I think the list needs to be updated a little bit (and the thread returned to the top of the forum, of course). So...

My middle school teacher showed us a 16mm print of Meshes in the Afternoon once a semester. It was his favorite film. I had forgotten the title, and was quite startled to encounter the film in my avant-garde cinema class in college. While Meshes in the Afternoon is personal, it is also...

Don't you think it's time to start this as a new topic (four pages is kinda long. . .)?? Anyways, I'd like to join if I may, and I've seen 53 of the films so far. Considering how many I've wanted to see anyways, I should have reached 100 by the end of next summer without encountering the list...
