This has already been done - I don’t know what the methodology or sources were, but HBO has aired a remastered version multiple times over the past decade that at at quick glance appears on par with the 2008 BDs. It doesn’t seem likely to get a physical media release but it’s out there.

That box is from the AppleTV - the subtitles aren’t hardcoded into the film but are a separate track that your AppleTV reads. By default, text appears within a box. You can go into the AppleTV settings to adjust how subtitles appear on your unit.
