Re: Eternals Japan
Sadly the disc breaks precedent and is presented in fixed 2.40:1 for the entire film, discarding the IMAX variable ratio that frankly, in my view, was the most entertaining thing about the film.
As with the other Japanese 3D discs, forced English subtitles are not included...
I don’t remember what started it but I remember a few years ago the other Josh (@joshEH ) got me real good in one - he was running circles around me and I didn’t even realize it until it was too late and all I could do was laugh at myself :D
Whoever said anything about assumptions. I simply said precedent was on the side of it having shifting ratios. Maybe we’re misreading each other because it feels a little like there’s an argument brewing and I’m trying my best to avoid one.
I don’t understand why this isn’t more widely known - lots of complaints from people in this thread about shifting aspect ratios and yet it seems no one bothers to choose the version that doesn’t feature them.
The HD version on D+ was very dark - but more than just being dark, it was indistinct. However, that’s Ben Davis for you. Age of Ultron, which he also shot, had a very similar visual palette. It is always an overcast day in a Ben Davis picture.
Happy to. Will most likely be variable - all MCU 3D discs of films with variable IMAX in theaters have retained it on disc. Only time it’s not retained is when IMAX version has non-variable IMAX ratio unchanging throughout film, in those cases standard 2.40:1 is what’s on disc.
I’m going to keep my order but I’d be happy to share my thoughts when it arrives if you want to postpone yours until after it’s gotten a real world test drive.
