What has happened to the AdobeRGB gamut? No monitor even seems to mention it anymore.

Well, at least I do get to expense my computer stuff.

I might have already said this here, but ai image processes like Topaz Sharpen ai on a 45MP image, even on my wimpy M1 Max Studio, went from 3-5 minutes on a 6 core i7 to 5-10 seconds on the Studio.

Seriously, I can't even scratch the surface with my M1 Max Studio. Of course, I'm not doing video, but I am doing some pretty hard-core processing on 45MP images.

Goodness! People are buying some insane Macs.

My somewhat old Epson V700 works fine on the Studio. My document scanner at work, an Epson ES400 also works fine.

It's funny. I listen to music too much, really, but I don't listen to it in my home office. I don't want to spend more time there than I have to. At work, there's music everywhere, all the time, but at home, music is for sitting and attently enjoying. BTW, you must have a cat or a rather...

The simple fact is, online "experts" thrive on absurd hyperbole. When the M2 Macs came out, most of them lost their minds when they discovered the 256GB SSDs are slower than the 512GB, which are slower than the 1TB. They completely ignored (more likely didn't even know, or care to point out)...

Sheesh. She needs to look up the definition of “obsolete”.

I have to say, if I was in the market, I might be looking at refurb M1 Studios. The base model M1 Max is $1,529 and the base model M1 Ultra is $2,879.

I shoot 45MP photos as well on my M1 Max Studio, but I have to wonder how much faster an M2 Ultra could be. At the time I was buying it, PhotoShop apparently was not using the second bank of CPUs in the Ultra processor. You did give me a (brief) moment of FOMO though.

Interesting. It whistles. However, both of us use a filter stand, and both of us have no whistle problem.

Honestly, even if I try, I can't get my M1 Studio above about 105 degrees. Of course, I'm not processing 8K video, but even major processing on 45MP images is done so fast the temp doesn't even blip.

The raw specs in that actually shows about a 15% boost in processor power. Compared to my 6-core i7 Mini, advanced image processes went from 3-5 minutes, to 10-15 seconds with the M1 Studio. So my question is, does another 15% boost make a real-world difference? I say it doesn't. Not really.

You're saying Apple will (might) offer direct trade-ins themselves?

Yeah, they had a big release of Studios. A lot of them are still available, but not your configuration. So it's good you got it when you did.

That’s exactly what I got, in refurb. You have to constantly check and move fast. FWIW, 64GB ended up being complete overkill, for me at least.

This speculation is exhausting. I've been saying all along that the Studio will most likely be a 2-4 year cycle. Maybe with a "refresh" in the middle of basically boosting something for the same price. The product hasn't even been out for a year and its death is already being predicted. As I...

Ron, normally the refurb discount is 15%, but for some reason on the Studio it's 10%. You do have to choose from what they have available though. With the Studio, they always seem to have the base model. I decided what configuration I wanted and waited for it to appear, then grabbed it. They...

Eh... Hard Pass. Refurb gives a better discount than that, and you don't have to sign up for any bullshit. Apple Refurbs are as good as new.

I haven't thought to check my RAM use while processing large images. I'll have to do that.

    Mac Studio & Studio Display

I will say this, the M1 Max Mac Studio is probably the best Mac ever made, when it comes to performance/price ratio. That's after 35 years of using Macs. Of course, once the M2 Mini comes out, the bar will probably be raised. At least there will be two levels of (probably) $1K for the Mini...

    Mac Studio & Studio Display

I completely agree. I forget that most Apple users have little to no experience outside the products that don't start with an "i". The "i" world is dominated by annual upgrades, but the world outside that has a 3-4 year product cycle and always has. Maybe with a "refresh" in the middle where...

Others here seem more tuned into possible Mac news than I am. I'm guessing odds are very good an M2 Mini is expected next Spring, to finally replace the old Intel based model. Would that be decent odds?

That's what I do. When I moved to Mac Minis around 15 years ago, I moved everything other than OS and Apps off the internal drive. Currently I use a monitor stand/hub that has internal space for a 2.5" SSD and an NVME drive in it, but I've used various things through the years. Since these...
