Suddenly the "awesome" blowouts recently aren't so awesome. 💩
However, the base model no longer has ethernet (weird), but the step up model is still only $150. I'm actually a little pissed.
Yep. Now that I have the second 4K Gen 2 I’ll probably move the 4K Gen 1 to the bedroom. Even though that system won’t be 4K in the foreseeable future, the days for ATV Gen 3 in there are limited.
The 4K Gen 2 seems to work fine. I also got a Gen 2 to replace my Gen 1 but haven't set it up yet. This week was mostly taken over with elderly parents duties and multiple doctor visits, so I haven't exactly felt like messing with less-than-necessary tech crap.
If I really want to troubleshoot it I need to swap them since the Gen 1 is on WiFi and the Gen 2 is wired. Or I could just disconnect the ethernet on the Gen 2.
Well, my ATV 4K Gen 1 is having the same issue with video stuttering on the Prime TNF broadcast. It is on WiFi, but the connection is at least 450Mb/s as confirmed by Speedtest. Plus, it doesn't act like a speed problem. It seems like a app/OS problem. The video will play fine for a minute...
I haven't noticed lip sync problems with the 4K Gen 1 and DV sources, but most of the time I'm watching something with DV it's in the HT which has a 4K Gen 2.
After the OS 16 update, I had terrible freezing problems streaming the NFL game on Prime last night wth the 4K Gen 1. I checked some...
BTW, I have a Gen 1 AppleTV 4K that has a messed up remote I'm selling for $85 shipped HERE. I always used it with a Harmony remote, but that's why the price is low.
I thought it might be a little quicker, but the Gen1 4K is no slouch. In the past, once a new ATV came out, the previous model had gotten noticeably sluggish.
Well, I went ahead and got a Gen 2 ATV 4K, though I already have two of the Gen 1 models and will replace one of those. It was partly impulse, wanting to see if there's any noticeable difference. Also, the remote on one of my Gen 1s got wonky and it's unusable on the occasion I need to use it...
Yep. I checked it also. My audio settings are the same as stated above. The "Highest Quality" setting for audio might have been something else,as the ATV doesn't have that.
Tested Encanto and got DV and Atmos.
I’ll check Encanto later on my setup.
If you set output to HDR, it sends everything in HDR, even when it isn’t. Setting Dynamic Range to “Match” enables it only when the source has it.
I’m pretty sure I have audio set to “highest quality”.
Robert provided the best settings, but you still might need a better cable. I believe Atmos has to be enabled in the audio settings.
edit: on settings, I set it to output everything at 4K, because the ATV up scaling is better than my Vizio TVs.
I think they just had to upgrade the hardware, considering the comments all over the place of it being "outdated". I've said over and over, Old chip or not, the current 4K device still functions better than any previous ATV did on the day it was released. Still, I can understand if I was...
