I’m assuming (or hoping?) they’re including Hamilton due to a Terminator-type vibe to S5. Similar to how the Aliens-influenced S2 featured Paul Reiser and S4 included Robert Englund given the Nightmare on Elm St feel.
We're in the process of slowly watching Breaking Bad right now. Almost up to S4. Great in terms of story, characters, dialogue, etc. But very dark, like you said. Not something I'd watch to cheer me up. ;) Or to even revisit.

I’m curious - is it unwatchable because the episodes are too long (and hence becomes a chore to watch)? In other words, would it have been better if a 2 hour episode had been split into 2 x 1 hour episodes?
Or is it the quality of the story and characters?
The nice touch about breaking the season into 2, is that it now builds plenty of anticipation for the last 2 episodes.
Similar to how the wait for Avengers: Endgame built the anticipation for that film.
I went to a high school in Australia, so there would certainly be some differences in school culture, but if I had to guess, ST is trying to show what life is like in a US high school during the 80s? Hormones, cliques, etc.
Though I would have to say, given the horror content alone, ST is meant...

An excellent season (so far), much better than the meandering season 3 (or at least what I remember of it!).
I liked the breathing room the story received, given the longer episode runtimes. Given the investment we have in these characters, it was compelling...
