Tino,
If you haven't seen it in full vertical height yet...the AMC Metreon laser IMAX screen here in SF is still showing it :B)

The "too derivative" argument is definitely valid, but I'm wondering whether some people went in expecting the same life-transforming experience that can't possibly be replicated almost 40 years later, as the author of the comment I posted mentions. (She does seem like she's more of a casual fan...
Me, too! Though I watched SW in 1977, it wasn't a life-transforming event for me. I "discovered" TESB and ROTJ in the mid-80s, and re-discovered SW after that. As such, I never felt Lucas "betrayed" me or some of the other vivid terms used when the prequels came out. I enjoyed them for what they...
Stephanie's comment at the bottom of this article http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/critics-notebook-how-star-wars-851209
reiterates what I postulated earlier about why some folks may not like TFA (but I could never be as scathing :))
All I get from these type of reviews is "wah wah...
Those concerned about the physics should have have stopped watching the first time they saw Ep IV. But I guess silent space battles aren't as immersive... :)
I'm currently at Disney World and there's hardly any Rey-related merchandise.
Unless it's sold out and the demand has been satiated, it looks like they're not pushing the female characters as much.
Also, for the Star Tours attraction, they've integrated footage of the Falcon chase on Jakku...
Yeah, I never thought Lucas had this 9-part arc all planned from the beginning. If he had, he wouldn't have needed to resolve the Luke-Leia-Han triangle by making Luke and Leia siblings.
Cool, Tino! Sometimes it's hard to convey through text :)
On another note: any plans on seeing TFA in full IMAX? That's about the only format you haven't explored, right? :P
Not an issue at all (as I'm in an interracial marriage). Just thinking back (and shaking my head) on the negativity that had surrounded Boyega's casting a couple of months ago. My tone was meant to be kind-of sarcastic. ;)
And if Disney is trying to include more diversity in this trilogy, if there is to be a romance for Rey (as alluded to in Patrick's link to stuff in the novel that was not in the film), I'd rather it be Rey-Finn, rather than Rey-Poe, especially given their shared adventures in TFA.
Imagine: an...
I'm with you Robert. The story would be much richer if Rey is Luke's daughter (who is the mother? etc.)
And given the prequels showed Jedi of all shapes, species and colours, and Luke training a bunch of padawans (who can't all be Skywalkers, right?), Rey can still be a Skywalker and the story...
Since there's been some posts on theatre experience and quality, for those interested in an IMAX screening, here is some info I found on the differences between IMAX Digital and IMAX 15/70mm:

Anyone have any thoughts on the significance of Rey and Han finishing each other's sentences while on the Falcon?
While I am of the opinion she is Luke's daughter (which would lead to more intriguing storylines, rather than another brother/sister being split up), the above could be evidence...
Patrick,
Did you notice if the image expanded vertically to fill the screen during the Falcon chase on Jakku?
Trying to ascertain if the versions shown on true IMAX screens but not advertised as 15/70mm or laser IMAX are showing that sequence in full IMAX height.
Tim,
Did you see it with the Falcon chase and escape on Jakku in full IMAX glory? Which location?
What did you think of that IMAX sequence in particular?
I'm thinking the same...the original and prequel trilogies had diminishing returns for the 2nd film in each series. Seems like these days the 2nd film in a series tends to do better when the 1st film is a surprise critically and/or commercially and/or found its audience via home viewing (think...
And it could definitely happen, given last weekend's estimate came in $10m under actuals. In which case it would be at least #8 and maybe even #7 depending on whether it is higher or lower than The Dark Knight Rises.
I could definitely see that happening, Travis. The Memorial Day weekend tends to be pretty crowded and there are often plenty of big summer films before and after, so they might want to avoid opening during the summer season (though i hope not!)
It is interesting to see how studios rely on...
Not to jump the gun, but assuming similar levels of marketing and promotion, anyone's guess as to Episode VIII's opening weekend?
Because it's Memorial Day, Sunday will have a boost.
For those who didn't like TFA relative to the original trilogy, I wonder if it's due to the passage of time?
Those who watched and loved SW, TESB and ROTJ back in the day often say it was a life-transforming experience, especially if one was a young and impressionable kid without any inherent...
