    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

Yes, and it was strange, because it seemed less funny without the laugh track. It makes you wonder how these things happen. Where did they even get the film as it existed before the laugh track was added? And why was it only part of the episode, and not the whole episode? And why didn't they...

To Ron Lee Green: That's very good! I think you can send it as it is. To Will Krupp: What you said is so true. We're damned if we do and damned if we don't: As you said, and it's worth repeating, if people decide to wait to buy a complete series, expecting it to contain material not included...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

I'm beyond upset -- this is so unfair. They need to offer a disc of the extras to all the people who loyally supported the season sets as they were released.

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

That's not the same as the box set of VHS tapes I have -- the tapes present the complete shows, and I think this new DVD just shows the Lucy-Desi segments.

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

It's difficult to know what happened. When "The Lucy Show" began, I read it was actually written in the writers' contracts that Lucy Carmichael was to be exactly like Lucy Ricardo. Then the creator of "I Love Lucy," Jess Oppenheimer, threatened to sue and settled out of court. (I mentioned this...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

The worst of "The Lucy Show" weren't the guest stars --- the worst was having some of the stupidest episodes in the history of television: Lucy becomes a superwoman Lucy, 55 years old and a woman with big false eyelashes, is drafted into the army and no one seems to notice she's too old...

That would be Carole Cook, not Barbara. (Also, Robert Osborne, well known from Turner Classic Movies now.)

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

In my life, I've talked to several people who loved "I Love Lucy" but hated (and that's not too strong a word) "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy" (and even these "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hours," which seems strange.) The people like us who want "The Lucy Show" are fans of Lucille Ball, which is a...

It would be inevitable that guys named Joe Karlosi and Joe Lugoff would have a lot in common!

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

We're harping on it because it's aggravating. I'm tired of sending away for replacement discs. I'm tired of thinking I'll have to rebuy sets (like this one) when they release them the second time, proclaiming new footage that we all know darn well should have been on the first set. And, as I...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

I think you remember some of it, but not all of it. I still have an audio tape I made from a CBS showing in the summer of 1967, and the scene ends with Lucy crying after pulling the tablecloth off the table. The following dialogue about Tallulah's allergy to strawberries is not there. I listened...

Apparently not --- there's something missing from "The Celebrity Next Door," as we've discussed in this thread.

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

Lucy and Desi decided to stop making them when they got divorced. (The next one was already planned, but I forget at the moment who the guest star was going to be.) They could have continued making them, because they continued to work together running Desilu, but they thought people would...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

Only the first one was restored to its original form. All the others are the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" versions, which technically weren't syndicated but shown on the CBS network in the summers from 1962-67, except for 1966. They were given new openings and closings, slightly cut to make room for...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

These kinds of "mistakes" seem to happen too frequently in the world of DVDs. Whoever puts the discs together has, basically, ONE JOB to do, don't they -- to put the right stuff on the discs? How can it even HAPPEN that after it's RELEASED, they suddenly go, "Whoops, we put the wrong thing on...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

The line about strawberries was cut when these shows were transformed into the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" in 1962. However, it was restored when Nick at Nite showed Episodes 2-13 uncut sometime in the 1990s. It's a good thing I saved my tapes of those showings! There's no excuse for these shows...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

You're the one getting his blood pressure up through not understanding what we're talking about. This movie contains several minutes of never-before-seen footage of the "I Love Lucy" characters -- so, yes, it's exciting for "Lucy" fans.

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

TV Shows on DVD is reporting that Gregg Oppenheimer is working on the "I Love Lucy" movie for a separate DVD, and they're speculating it might be included on a "Complete Series" set which will come out later in the year. As we've said here, and I'll now repeat -- it would be unfair to the...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

I believe the movie was made in 1953, but then they decided to make "The Long, Long Trailer" instead. It was planned to be shown in theaters, not on television. There are certainly no hidden "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hours." They made 13 of them, and that's that.

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

If they have any sense of ethics or decency, they better make the new bonus content available on a separate, reasonably priced disc, for the loyal fans who bought each set as they were released, as I've done and will do again Tuesday. They also better think about releasing "The Lucy Show" next.

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

Forty years ago, I audio taped the 13 hour shows the last summer they ran on CBS. A few years ago, I video taped the 13 hour shows when they ran on Nick at Night. I was surprised (and pleased) to see there were little pieces of dialogue in them that weren't on my audio tapes. I did NOT...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

The review says that all of the shows except for the first one have the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" opening. I hope they don't use the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" prints, which were slightly shortened, and had the commercial breaks in different places, with new music cues.
  23. Joe Lugoff

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

They better not even THINK of making the movie or other things available ONLY by buying another "complete series" set. I have no intention of doing that. And that kind of marketing trick only discourages people from buying season sets of shows, thinking they better hold off for the complete...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

Well, "The Lucy Show" seemed to get worse as it went along -- but "Here's Lucy" got better. Lucy got her old writers back and they wrote several episodes for the last three seasons. However, it's still inferior to "I Love Lucy" -- but what isn't? Actually, I'd recommend that "Here's Lucy" set...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

I agree that "I Love Lucy" is the best sitcom ever. "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy" were quite inferior, and Lucille Ball got less funny as her voice deepened -- but I'd still like those two series, too, because there were usually two or three good laughs in most episodes (compared to twenty...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

While technically not true, a case can be made for it. Technically, these shouldn't have been called "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour," either, but they've been called that for over 44 years now. I guess calling them "The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Specials" wouldn't give them the sales that calling them...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

When he says "CBS has remastered and restored the show to its original length, and will present it in this new DVD set," I'm interpreting that as meaning the scenes will be included within the episode. I doubt the commercials will be part of the episode, or even the "Stay tuned for the U. S...

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

We Lucy fans would also like the original Westinghouse commercials from "Seasons 8 and 9" in addition to the Ford commercials from "Season 7." I hope they're included.

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

It would be nice if the upcoming set includes (as extras) those 3 and a half minute commercials featuring the Ricardos and Mertzes. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they were part of the actual show, but I guess most people wouldn't agree with me on that.
