I'm all for fresh ideas but I think it was our esteemed chairman Robert Osborne who was quoted as saying "I don't think the world is ready for The Police Academy films or Magical Mystery Tour to be counted among the classics". ;)

Well at our last secret meeting your name was brought up for membership nomination. Unfortunately a few of the members didn't think you'd qualify for "film-buff" status since you despise so many of the "classics". Maybe the "snob" club will let you join instead. ;) BTW - After the ballots are...

Apples & oranges. I also know many people at work who "go to movies" & aren't interested in anything made past the last few years so the last thing they'd do I pick up some "classic" films on DVD. I also don't consider these people "film buffs" & I'm unclear about what this has to do with the...

The S&S list is no better or worse then any other list I've seen. It's certainly not the be-all & end-all that some make it out to be. There are plenty of truly great films on the list but it also has it's fair share of sh*%.
So Lew what you're saying is that some elite cabal of pseudo-intellectual critics & film scholars need to tell the common folks which films deserve the status of being crowned a "Classic"? I shudder when I think of the possibilities. Thankfully it doesn't happen this way as this idea...
When a film is 20+ years in age it's a pretty safe bet to label a film a classic (if merited). Though by the 10+ year mark you can pretty mech tell if a film will have any lasting impact (i.e. Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, etc.)
