You'll be waiting a loooooong time. CH DVD has never been confirmed to work with HD DVD, although it's been mentioned that it won't. Of course, that's assuming CH DVD is ever released. No players have been released, no titles have been announced, major US studios are highly unlikely to support...

Ugh. Not only were you basing your "theories" on incorrect data, but you also have the audacity to snidely mock an industry source and fellow forum member whose data has been correct far more than your posts have been. In fact, I should point out that it was Bill Hunt and other sources you...

I find it odd that someone who loves to go on about BD's profiles and cry wolf about obsolescence would look towards a tech that would do the exact same thing to DVD. Unless, of course, you actually believe all of that DVD 2.0 nonsense could be done on the billions of existing DVD players with...

And it's highly unlikely either you or he were picking up $200 or under DVD players less than a year and a half after it came out. You can't claim that pricing is bad compared to DVD if it's in the same price bracket at the same point in the lifecycle.

Doh, forgot about the 5.1 analog. But that still doesn't change the BD50 price point, nor the fact that the A35 is currently on the same level as the similarly priced Samsung 1400 or Panny BD30 yet somehow comes across as ideal where the BD players are not.

FWIW, no HD DVD player does that, either. As for the PS3, I don't understand why it doesn't count. It's capable of everything you asked for except for DTS Master, which is expected after the BD50 is released. Which then brings us to the BD50, which hasn't been priced AFAIK, but was directly...

This makes no sense. DVD was not "hugely successful by any standard" until 3-4 years into its lifecycle, yet studios were releasing A-list titles DVDs well before the format hit that landmark.

Any of the announcements of the last week, up to and including Toshiba dropping HD DVD/Universal releasing Blu-ray, would probably render any contract void due to performance clauses, extenuating circumstances, and the like.

Really, it's a face-saving statement. Best Buy has a long-standing relationship with Toshiba for both product placement and in-house hardware production. The subtext was that HD DVD would be relegated to high-demand areas only, and that many locations would not get re-orders unless requested.

Netflix didn't drop HD DVD during CES2008. Best Buy didn't drop HD DVD during CES2008. "Across the Universe" and "Elizabeth: TGA" weren't on sale during CES2008.

Sorry, but this argument no longer matters. HD DVD sold the hardware throughout 2007, and it didn't do enough. As it stands now, they're not even selling the hardware. They've been beat in non-PS3 player sales for what, 2.5 months now, including the busiest electronics buying period? Non-BOGO...

Expected HD DVD excuses and the rebuttal: 1) "This isn't any different than their previous policy" Not true. This is them saying HD DVD product is out of the re-order queue. 2) "Amazon sells more than they do" Also not true. See Video Business' article "Best Buy named leading...
