    Picture freezes during movie. What's up with that?

    It's just a layer change. Most commercial DVDs are dual-layer, and so the laser has to access the second layer. It's like a really quick version of laserdisc autoflips. Almost every player does it, I think, unless it has some enormous buffer. It's also more noticeable with some DVDs than others.
