The Art of Fugue/J.S. Bach/ The New Century Saxophone Quartet. (Channel Classics/SACD ).
Despite the anachronistic instrumentation, this is a masterful work.
Handel-- Renée Flemming.
Really, really nice on my Grado SR-80s. Sadly, not so nice on my B&W 601s3.
edit: somehow my changer lost the balance & distance settngs. It's a bit better now.
By the way, is anybody here getting sick and tired of hearing "You do know that these are SACDs...", when buying hybrids?
I found this page while searching out disc reviews
I mean, really. Non Hybrids deserve a warning. Hybrids? There's nothing wrong with a hybrid.
Rolling Stones-- Between the Buttons. Nice album, though the original recording has some deficiencies
Rolling Stones--Let it Bleed. It took me some time to actually find the digipack version. I've only heard one or two tracks of it so far, including the famous "You can't always get what you...
ah, the eternal dilemma of the centre channel. For films, it keeps the dialogue focused on the screen. For music, it avoids the precedence effect for off center audience members-- in many situations, the auditory complex will fixate on the first source of sound it hears, so rather than hearing...
anne sophie mutter-Beethoven. Spring and Kreutzer Sonatas. SACD. Some reviews note that this album was done in 44.1 kHz PCM. I suppose that if you've been seduced by DSD propaganda, this might be a concern, but it seems very similar to "DDD" mania. On the other hand, it's not spectacular...
Anonymous 4 The Origin of Fire: Music and Visions of Hildegard von Bingen. (SACD-Harmonia Mundi)
The surrounds seem to be used to good effect, recreating the echos of the performance space.
Pink Floyd. Dark side of the... Oh, you've heard of it.
Rubenstein Beethoven Sonatas. Living Stereo. Finally, the distorting effects of the original stereo mixdown are removed, and the concert can be heard as the engineers intended: Three Mikes. Three Tapes. Three Channels.
I just got a SACD player-- a Sony 2000ES (which sounds pretty damn spectacular playing audio CDs through the analog outputs). I last posted my DVDAudio collection a few posts above. With those glimmers of taste (or lack of same) in mind, would anybody like to recommend my first SACDs?
All are DVD-A.
R.E.M "The Best of R.E.M: In time 1988-2003" (Warner) -- Awesome disc. I really like the adventuresome mix of "Orange Crush". This means that I'll probably spend some time looking for "Green" to fill in the holes in my collection...
R. E. M "Automatic for the People". (Warner)...
