Watching the episode with the most egregious music replacement- Grease
(season 9, disc 1). Norm goes on a crusade to save the Hungry Heifer. I can confirm that the BluRay did not restore the song from the original broadcast. 🙁
Season 7 episode One Happy Chappy In A Snappy Serape- the same flawed shots from the DVD (too dark, and soft). Seems that there was no effort to clean up bad video, or acquire the best video for the transfer- they just fed the DVD video into a machine, and the BluRays popped out. 👎
In the season 3 episode I Call Your Name- on the BluRay, they cut a scene short, compared to the DVD, likely due to song rights. On the DVD, after Frasier leaves the bar, Sam sings Unforgettable while looking at a mirror. This scene is cut from the BluRay. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Wow- aside from the improved picture on the BluRay from DVD, the studio dropped the ball on this release. The season 2 episode I’ll Be Seeing You Part 1- the sped up audio & video was not corrected on the BluRay. Who knows- maybe this shot was an issue in the original broadcast- the video is...
The screams are on both the DVD and BluRay. I assume the bumper in the original broadcast was to break for commercial at an unusual time (I don’t think any other Cheers episodes had a commercial break that late in the show).
One thing they carried over from the DVD to BluRay, which I like- they...
A change from the DVD to the BluRay in the episode The Proposal (first episode in season 5). On the DVD, the scene where Diane expects Sam to be on the boat, and wakes up the monsignor- the scene abruptly ends, then switches back to the bar. On the BluRay, you hear Diane and the monsignor...
At the very least, I hope they fixed the issue with a show at the end of season 2- on the DVD, the picture and audio was sped up, and looked to be missing frames for about 10-15 seconds.
The one huge music cue that they likely didn’t correct from the DVD release is the episode Grease, from season 9. I Fought The Law was the original bit of music that enhanced a joke, what was put on the DVD made zero sense, and ruined the joke.
Ah- I don’t watch the season 10 episodes much, and when I do, I normally skip the opening credits. I hope the new BluRay set comes with chapter markers that can skip, like the DVD sets have.
I think Bebe Neuwirth was listed as part of the regular cast for only the 11th season.
Great news that this is coming. I really am hoping against hope that we’ll get the broadcast versions, before music was altered, but ain’t betting on it.
