Now I'm confused. When I go to the main menu of the film, I have a choice to "Play Film" or play the "Special Edition." They now both have the same running time, and the "Play Film" is 4K/DV/Atmos. The separate "Special Edition" is still showing HD. Is the theatrical cut gone?
My go-to version of “Avatar” is the extended cut, and I just viewed it about a month ago and it still looks awesome to me. I’m not going to stress over it not being in 4K.
The theatrical and another slightly extended version are included as extras on the extended version purchased on iTunes. As of now, all three are still in HD.
Noticed that “Coraline” is now being offered in 4K Dolby Vision, but the copy I purchased directly from iTunes is still in HD only. Hopefully it will upgrade…
My jumping the gun yesterday may have been to my advantage. When I checked my old 4K Dolby Vision version of the theatrical cut of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" to see if it was upgraded, it wasn't, so I went ahead and purchased the new Director's Cut. Since I did this, iTunes let me keep the...
The aspect ratio shifts from about 2.39 to 1.78 during big action scenes, which would fill up the big IMAX screens in the movie theater. The format looks good on a home display, too.
I just noticed that "Heavy Metal" is now 4K DV, and I purchased the title via iTunes awhile back, but my copy didn't upgrade and is still HD. When I do a search on "Heavy Metal" on iTunes, only the 4K version shows up. The HD version is not available, yet my copy is still HD. What gives?
Is it my imagination, or did all three “Godfather” films just get updated with the new versions, albeit still in HD? It looks like the old Paramount logo was replaced with the modern one. And the poster graphics for each have been updated.
Something must have been off yesterday with Apple TV. It was showing 4K but didn't have the overture. This morning, it had the overture, so at least that's been fixed. Wish there were more extras, though.
What’s odd is I’m hearing that the physical 4K disc has the overture, which the digital version doesn’t, plus way more extras. Only see a commentary and a screen test.
