If you look at the numbers out of South Africa, the amount of people being hospitalized or dying is substantially lower. I also believe that everyone is going to get this at some point and it would be better to be infected by Omicron and have natural immunity against a future variant that might...
Where I live, the theaters have mostly gotten back to what they were doing in 2019. The big multiplexes have a few screens for movies like Spencer and Belfast. The more obscure stuff plays at the local Landmark.
All seats are for sale, no masks or vax cards are required. The Thursday night...
Apparently this happened a few days ago and I'm just now seeing it.....

By late April, it's looking like a huge chunk of the population will have been vaccinated. I don't think they're going to pack the Dolby. It would seem to me that this could be done through testing and proper distancing (if that's even necessary by late April).
Just a friendly PSA to remind people to be careful at home. I got infected by my daughter who came over to visit last Monday on her way home from work. She was complaining that she wasn't feeling well and stupid me didn't think anything of it because she's such a hypochondriac. Had I been...
The Landmark near me is surprisingly busy for some reason. I've only been a few times since they reopened but it's been between 20-40 people every showing. It's still general admission seating though.
Same here. I'm still getting my money's worth. I went to see Tenet again in Dolby before that screen got taken over by the new Liam Neeson action film. I also saw Kajillionaire and Yellow Rose. Tenet is still my favorite movie of the year. I may actually go see it again a third time next...
I don't think so. I feel like the only people who care about Tenet right now fall into two camps:
1) Hardcore film people who are willing to travel to see it.
2) People who aren't ready to go back into theaters yet.
For people who fall into #1, the Eastern and Southeastern parts of the state...
I can't say for sure if it's the same situation....but a similar thing happened here with Goodrich. The largest, nicest, highest volume GQT never reopened after the shutdown. I spoke with an acquaintance who worked there. The story I got is that the new owners of GQT would not buy any theater...
Disney and Universal have been packed on weekends but pretty light during the week. They both started out very slow but by late August they've gotten busy...
It's still substantially safer than restaurants (which seem to be getting near normal crowds again).
At restaurants, everyone is unmasked and talking. Based on what I've seen at theaters, I'd say about half are eating and the other half are masked. A whole restaurant of unmasked people...
Theaters will still have plenty of leverage. Studios need theaters as PVOD can't come anywhere close to generating the same amount of revenue. Avengers Endgame would have made a fraction of the $2.8 billion had it not been for movie theaters.
I understand why the other chains don't want this window permanently, but it seems like for the time being that a 17-day window is a win-win for everyone.
North Carolina movie theaters can reopen starting tomorrow. That leaves NY as the last state still holding out.

After all of the movies that have been moved back, this one moved up from Christmas to Thanksgiving.....

Agreed, although if 90% of the positive tests don't have any active virus, that would seem to meet the definition of a false positive.
It makes it impossible to compare our numbers with the rest of the world when they are using 30 cycles and we are using 40.
