Speaking of bad decisions..... Sony Turned Down The Rights To Black Panther, Iron Man, Thor And Other Marvel Characters Fascinating article!

I agree, but then again I often get shot down when I try to say the same thing about Sean Connery in Never Say Never Again. :) I'm not sure it would hurt Marvel unless they made a film on par with Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man 2. They may very well have. I think we'll have an answer...

I never thought of that angle, but it makes sense. At the same time, I do find the discrepancy between the two contracts interesting. Sony makes a deal with Marvel for 5 films, but 6 films with Tom Holland. I'm wondering if that was by design or something unrelated? I wasn't even aware of...

Mostly correct, although I slightly disagree with Marvel having no creative control over the two Marvel-produced Spider-Man films. Sony has the final say, so I guess while that's technically true, my understanding is that Feige is pretty much in charge of those two movies. Yes, it was revealed...

I saw this yesterday and was pretty pleased with it overall. It had a great look to it, Hardy was fantastic, and the San Francisco location was nice. If I had any complaint, I suppose it would have been better if it were 20 minutes or so longer. It felt a bit rushed at times, but still very...

We don't even know if there will be any more MCU Spider-Man films after Far From Home. I'd say the huge success of Venom this weekend probably negates that quite substantially. Why? He's an Executive Producer of the film. I don't get why people loved his cameos prior to 2008 and now they are bad.

The distinction would be Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Films. Marvel Entertainment has their animated logo at the beginning of the film and have been promoting it on their Twitter feed. Marvel also supplied the Venom comic book that is being given away at theaters. Stan Lee is credited as...

    Venom (October 5, 2018)

Well, the early reviews are indicating it's not very good. So far, only the social media review embargo has been lifted. The critic embargo gets lifted tonight at 10:00 ET/ 7:00 PT. There's also the accusation out there that Lady Gaga fans have taken to Twitter with fake reviews...

No, if it's bad, I'll certainly voice that opinion. It's certainly possible that it will be a mess. When I saw the first teaser, I didn't think it looked good at all. The recent trailers have me excited though.

Sorry if that got misinterpreted. I'm referring to the vast number of posts I'm seeing on other boards from people who trash any comic book movie that isn't part of the MCU. I've even read some who advocate boycotting Venom so that Sony will give up and sell the rights back to Disney. I...

I'm excited as well. The MCU fanboys will bash it no matter how good it is, but it won't affect my enjoyment of the film.

For those that like 3-D, there are IMAX 3-D showings here in the U.S. on this one (tickets are now on sale). The closest IMAX 3-D showing to me is about 35 minutes away, but I may go see it there because my normal IMAX theater is showing it in 2-D only.

I think it all depends on whether or not Sony renews their deal with Marvel. Holland is contracted for one more film with Sony after the deal ends. I could totally see Sony trying to create their own Spider-Verse without Feige's involvement, but we'll see.

This is exactly why I am so thankful that Fox had the rights to Deadpool and Logan instead of Sony or Disney.

I'll wait for the reviews. Being "in the MCU" makes no difference to me. There are plenty of good Marvel films that aren't part of the MCU. I'm just not all that excited about the Venom character to begin with.
