So now this is about continuity? If that was so very important, we’d all be discounting the franchise based on the second episode of TOS.
I don’t disagree. That word shouldn’t be in a kid’s vocabulary. A five year old shouldn’t be watching live action Trek, regardless. Every iteration is full...
It’s evidence that Starfleet folks would use language that, at the time, audiences might find objectionable.
Let’s take another. The word “merde.” It’s French and it’s a curse. Yet no one made any mention of it when Picard said it.
There’s been a precedent for words or actions or even people...
You really want to put hell on the same playing field as that other word?
So tell me, which group is going to have a problem with hell? Who is going to clutch their pearls, scream “think about the children” and point their noses up in disgust?
Taking a riff on what Shelby said to Riker...
I’m being courteous to those on the forum, and to the owners. The forum doesn’t come with a rating like every television show has for the last 20 years.
That’s the good thing about the world: we’re all entitled to our own opinions.
The F word isn’t as salty as hell, for sure. At least in my world. For some people, there is no difference...they’re both equally as bad. Frankly, I have zero problem with it. We know these Starfleet folks are...
I dunno...outside of TOS and TAS, Trek has always had a profanity here or there. Nothing like the F word, mind you, but we’ve had a bunch of other words.
I remember, back when TNG was on, I was visiting an aunt and uncle for the summer. Put on whatever random episode was on at the time and...
I'm also a little more than halfway done with the first Picard novel and it is what the first season should have been. I'll have more to say when I'm done, but it's a great read. Thank you to Josh and Sam for recommending it.
I did pick it up right after I saw the price. It'll be the next book on my list...currently in the middle of DS9: Objective Bajor.
I'm looking forward to it based on your recommendation, Josh.
There's likely to be lots of time for that price to drop like a rock before the actual release date. Both Discovery S1 and S2 settled around $35 per season on release day.
Just to be clear: I'm not against the idea. It makes sense in some ways to me. I don't like how it seemingly comes out of nowhere after four years with Seven on Voyager and a the first season with both characters in Picard.
Misspoken? I mean, it's been televised, so it's canon, right? Right or wrong, out of continuity or not, it's there.
That's the evidence we have.
Or are you saying the transcription is wrong?
I pulled this off of Reddit (TNG Season Seven episode "Inheritance"):
LAFORGE: Basically she's a Soong-type android, except everything about her is designed to fool you into thinking she's human.
CRUSHER: She's got tear ducts, sweat glands, even veins and capillaries underneath her skin.
RIKER...
I agree completely. Which makes all the time and heartbreak over his terminal illness a complete waste of time. They wanted the audience to be invested in it and didn't have the guts to actually kill him.
Well, I called it last week after Part I. The golem turned out to be the writers trap door: they wanted to mine Picard's terminal illness for all it's tears and emotion but could never follow through on it. It made sense, obviously. We all know the show is coming back next year and you don't...
Yes, that was the point of it...but the outcome of this season which would have the most impact, and follow along with Picard's terminal illness, is that plan changes.
At least that's what I'm thinking right now.
Agreed you don't have ST: Picard without Patrick Stewart.
However...they left themselves a HUGE "out" if thy want to go for shock value in the finale next week AND have him back next season. The episode didn't even try to hide it.
The teaser and Act I spent a lot of time reminding everyone...
I heard the name and they went right by it so fast I didn't blink. But I think Picard said he was an ensign on the Reliant...? I know this is in the weeds, but that's new information for his backstory I think.
Which made me wonder if that was the Reliant A, B, C...
I'm just not loving and...
Same. I wish this was a new phenomenon, but we've had higher up's in Starfleet like Oh for the span of the franchise. Starfleet must have the WORST background check system ever or they don't monitor their people or something. It's kinda ridiculous, honestly.
However...and this goes back a few...
Sure. Talking about any episode of any show by itself is a knee jerk reaction without knowing where the rest of the season is going to go. That's how this works. If the episode is good enough, it can stand on its own and stand in the context of the larger story. Problem is, for me, this one...
