It's interpreting the story in a different and unique way. Snow White wasn't particularly ground breaking, story wise. It was groundbreaking technically.
I'd argue there is creativity. The reviews are stating the movie is gorgeous to look at. This could very well be a step forward for photo-realistic CGI (or whatever you want to call it).
And you do understand that Walt was an innovator and a great storyteller, but he didn't have any new story ideas, right?
He took those ideas from fairy tales and made them into movies. Snow White was written by the Brothers Grimm. Dumbo was based on an existing story. Sleeping Beauty...
All they're doing-and by extension all every other studio is doing-is giving the audience what the audience wants. If the audience stops showing up for a certain kind of film or TV show, it will stop being made. That has not happened, aside from the soft BO of Dumbo. This really isn't rocket...
