Good grief. HD DVD may have had better tech specs (notice I said "may"...) but hardware alone does make a tech better. You need the software. HD DVD didn't stand a chance with only Paramount/DreamWorks and Universal released exclusively. Software drives hardware sales, not the other way around.

Wow...just...wow. I've never heard of anything like this. And, with the number of intelligent people around here, you'd think this "problem" would have surfaced in the last 2 years. Wow again.

I found that odd, too. Universal was quick on the ball, saying they would release new/catalogue titles on BD. Paramount's reaction? We'll study the market and plan releases accordingly. (Exact wording: "As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and...

I just find that beyond stupid. There always has been a wealth of information for people to understand what they are buying BEFORE they buy it. If you're going to make a purchase, you better know full well what you're getting yourself into. I hope any judge in this country throws out the lawsuit...

That would be a devil of a system to put into place. Do you now charge by the disc? If there is a high def disc in the queue, do you get bumped to a higher price? The obvious answer is, if you don't to pay the higher price, stick with SD.

As my father always used to say,"Perception is reality." If Netflix isn't renting any HD DVD's after August, the perception is that software is near impossible to get for it. If you can't get software (ie. rental software), why continue to buy players? If all you can get is Blu Ray software...

None taken, Paul. I've worked in small businesses by entire career. Several big businesses we deal with (think life insurance companies) have left hands which don't know what the right hand does. If this was the first time something like this happened, I wouldn't think about it. But it's...

Adam, isn't that kind of splitting hairs at this point? Almost like saying the Department of Defense issuing a statement and the White House not knowing anything about it? Universal is Universal whichever way you want to slice it just as the government is the government.

Adam, maybe some clarification, then. Other sites are saying it was Universal in Japan that put the presentation together CEATEC. Was it or was it not Universal?

Ya know, this isn't quite on the level of FF2 not working on all blu players, but it's a goof up of pretty big importance. Makes me wonder if Spielberg's supposed blu preference has anything to do with Universal constantly putting misinformation out about his movies.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with any flipper discs, but I'm EXTREMELY leary because something can always scratch either side. One of the reasons I haven't ordered an A3 yet is the combo. The disc not working is one of my irrational fears, I think.

^ Same can be said for Universal (NBC, among others) and Paramount (a former sister of CBS and the CW, among others). This kind of stuff goes both ways.

What I'm saying is that just because Sony bought an end cap at Target does not mean consumers can not buy HD DVD movies/players from other retailers. Paramount/DreamWorks (and all the other exclusive studios) going HD means that Blu Ray only households can't buy any Paramount/DreamWorks content...

So since Sony is buying end cap room at Target, HD movies won't be available anywhere? Paramount/DreamWorks going HD means Transformers, Shrek 3 and all their other movies/shows won't be available to Blu Ray only folks. Consumers can still get their hands on whatever HD product they want (from...

Hollywood in Hi Def is a blu ray site. They're upfront with that. Call it a promo site or fluff news...whatever. I'd have to agree with you on that. Therefore, does it really need to have objectivity? Probably not, but that's most likely semantics at this point. Paramount was paid-however you...

Where, exactly, on blu-ray.com does it say the site is in any way affiliated with Blu Ray proper? Oh wait, it doesn't. In fact, at the very bottom of the main page, the following appears: "This web site is not affiliated with the Blu-ray Disc Association."

For all intents and purposes, we're all fighting the "same" battle no matter which format we prefer: the battle to watch the movies we want to watch in the best possible formats. The entire internet has seemingly taken sides as if someone's mother has been disrespected. Seriously, this is just...
