Robert Jordan has passed away. I know many people felt his Wheel of Time series dropped in quality as it went on, but I was eagerly looking forward to his concluding chapter. I also know none of those people wished this on him. Rest in peace, Mr. Jordan.

Joe D - Glad you enjoyed The Bonehunters. The more I think of it, the higher it goes on my list of the Malazan books. I'll be interested as usual in your thoughts on RG, and then we're hopefully a year away from Toll the Hounds. I finished a little book called Harry Potter and the Deathly...

Joe - I am in the US, I just order the books from Amazon.UK. They end up costing about $40, but they are hardcover and the quality (of the writing, not that the books themselves are bad) is so worth it. Actually, now that I think about it, I think I have imported all of the books, even the...

Just finished Steven Erikson's Reaper's Gale over the weekend. This is his most recent release in the Malazan Empire series, the seventh out of ten. Having just completed the previous novel right before starting this one, I have to say it is not quite as intense as The Bonehunters but still very...

Joe - I have not read any of the other Malazan stuff, mainly because it has been a bit too pricey. I may look into it again now that there is an official US release, but from what I hear those stories aren't too integral to the storyline being told in the regular books. Erikson definitely has...

Joe D - Glad to see another Erikson fan here. Gardens can be a tough book to get into, but for those who do I think they are rewarded with one of the finest fantasy series I have ever read. Speaking of which... May books: The Bonehunters by Steven Erikson This is the 6th book in the series...

Holadem, if you have any idea what R+L means, then I would say go ahead and read them. If you don't know what that means, or the "rest of the equation", then don't. I hope that helps. Now, what are you doing reading the forum anyway??? You should be reading the book! :)

Holadem, Do me a favor and keep us updated as you go through ASoS. Personally, I found ACoK to be somewhat forgettable between AGoT and ASoS. That's not to say it wasn't excellent, just that so much happens in the first and third books that I felt was more significant. Ah, the memories of...

I updated my post on page 2. I finished Crichton's State of Fear last month. After that for some reason I kind of took a break, but I am now reading The Ruins by Scott Smith. When my brother-in-law lent me the book it sounded a bit like Hostel, but apparently there is going to be a bit more...

Good thread. My first entry really qualifies for 2006, but it was close enough to the end of the year for me to include it. January World War Z by Max Brooks: I have not read Broooks' first zombie novel (yet), so I don't know if this was a bit of a different narrative for him. It was...
