I was thinking that, now that the show has been successfully relaunched with a celebrities edition, it would be fun to go back to having regular people play for the next cycle because some of the drama inherent to Millionaire involves watching average people make decisions that could change...

Okay, I feel like I just had to bump this very old thread because the following clip happened on last night's episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, in which Andy Cohen was playing for Planned Parenthood. I tried to find the actual thread for the year in question but couldn't, so decided...

Good to hear you saw it and liked it. We get it opening here next week. On another note, the Oscars were over a month ago now. While I'm by no means saying that we should stop using the thread if there are additional things we want to discuss, maybe it doesn't need to be sticky at the top of...

There was a way that Corden and Wilson could have been funny and self-deprecating about Cats without making it sound like they were passing the buck to other people. They chose not to do that.

Since you posted this comment in both the Parasite thread and here, I guess I'll answer it in both places for anyone who happens to be reading one or the other. Why would there be rules in place to prevent it? If you mean because they are acting in a foreign language, then, no, there are not...

Is this the first time that two actors have won an Oscar for playing different versions of the same character? It seems like it might be. The only other situation I can think of would be if someone won for a remake where the original actor also won for the same role. But that would be them...

I think Phoenix won because there is no other film last year that relied so heavily on one performance to work. Leo is great in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but so is Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie and the ensemble, and the story of Leo's character is not the only thing going on there. Adam...

I loved Saorsie Ronan in that movie and I would have been happy with her winning tonight, but I'm also sure that she's going to win at some point. She is so good in everything that she does that it's going to be her time eventually. It's just a matter of when. So I'm not going to lose any...

I disagree with that sentiment. If Pixar besmirched the good name of their most storied franchise with a bad movie, they wouldn't have been put through. But fortunately they didn't, and I think the Academy got the win right. Frozen II should have received a nomination at least, but Toy Story...

You are correct. That would not be possible in the process to determine the nominations because, as you noted, they are branch-specific. So the directing branch, which left her out, probably didn't know what the writers branch was going to do and vice versa. That being said, because everyone...

I would absolutely take out Todd Phillips and put Gerwig in. That being said, considering that Little Women was for Sony, I'm not sure I would say that they have less resources. However, they had to split their focus and support both Little Women and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for awards...

As I've said before in this thread, the Oscar voters are entitled to their opinions and if they only want to nominate white men, there's nothing that people outside the membership can do about that really. But the reason it bothers me is because Hollywood runs on a system where awards...

Although there are a lot of good movies nominated this year, I would say that I loved Toy Story 4 more than any of the Best Picture nominees this year that I saw (everything but 1917.) Last time, when Toy Story 3 was nominated for Best Picture, they had a fixed number of ten nominees before...

A purely "comfort food" movie wouldn't have ended the way that Toy Story 4 did. That movie didn't do anything the easy way for either the characters or the audience, which is one of the things I love about it.

I take issue in particular with some of his reasoning for the animated category. The Hidden World isn't supposed to stand on its own. It's fine if he didn't like it, but to penalize a sequel for not being a standalone film is a ridiculous criteria. It's supposed to rely on the other films...

I absolutely agree that he needs to be remembered, but I wouldn't mind at all if he got his own distinct separate segment and everyone else was in the original (hypothetically) locked one. Giving him his own would put more of a focus on him than if he's just in there with everyone else.

The interesting thing with regard to how the Oscars will handle Douglas' passing is we don't know how far in advance they lock the clip packages used, and it seems like there's always someone noteworthy who passes away adjacent to the ceremony. I assume they will try to fit him into the clip...

It's looking more and more likely that 1917 is going to win several awards. If that is the case, I wonder if they will take a spread-the-love approach and give Once Upon a Time something like, say, Screenplay, while 1917 takes Picture and Director, or if 1917 will just suck all the air out of...
