:D :D :D Not to get between the three of you, but my answer is (a resounding) "No!" as well. But it's rare to find someone openly acknowledging that they operate the other way (though plenty of people do) :D -- H
Or maybe we could all just accept that some people are more popular than others, even when equally dead. Not sure why that's such a bad thing. The Academy knows this, which is why they leave the biggest hitters for last, to close with high applause. Think of that last surge as applying to the...
No, it's because of the idiot-producer who thought that the stage was more important than the screen. This applies to the entire show. I think what bugs me most about the ceremony is that if felt a lot more like (1) a celebration of the people who made the movies than (2) a celebration of the...
Sorry but this argument is absurd on it's face I wouldn't even know where to begin. :rolleyes:I mean, as opposed to all those other Oscar noms/winners which routinely get released in the last 2 weeks of December in 2 cities? Seriously, did you really type that with a straight face? -- H
I dunno about that. Perhaps in cyberspace, but even then I would argue that it became controversial the moment it became a phenomenon. But out in the real world where most people live, I can't say I've ever heard anyone negatively re-evaluate the thing -- nor have I witnessed the opposite, as...
So... You claim that the film didn't get BP nom because the AA doesn't like that sort of film. At the same time, those same comic flick haters who were blind to Nolan's genius were somehow lucid enough to recognize the awesomeness of Ledger performance, but that couldn't possibly be because...
I was astonished by the perfection of her performance (she owned the characteristic maneurism and facial expressions of a French woman in this film) till I learnt that she's been living in France since oh... forever and is essentially (and legally) uh... French. Bleh :P Seriously, good though...
Kind of ironic, no? Others might find your resolve (of depriving yourself of a theatrical screening of a movie you obviously love just to spite some fans you've probably never met) equally "pathetic", dontchathink? :P -- H
Ha. That's what I get for picking up on a comment out of context. What I wrote was meant to be very general and compltely unrelated to that film. Edwin's comments touched on something I've been feeling for a long time so I jumped on it without thinking of the context. I very much want to see...
Eh. Not to derail the thread but I kinda feel the same way, though far more conflicted. On one hand, I have a passion for anything WWII. On the other, one wonders when "the West" will move on, so to speak; The trauma of that war is felt very heavily still in films and probably other artforms...
I found nothing exceptional in the acting of both leads in RR. Frankly, it was farcical at times (see the first argument, roadside); not sure if that was intentional. -- H
I wish TDK had gotten a BP nod as well, just to quiet down its fans (and Ledger's) which are becoming really really tireseome. Good grief. :P Seriously, a Director nod was deserved I think. But not BP IMO. Pleasantly surprised to see Jenkins from the Visitor as well. I've heard zip about...
