Android Honeycomb Tablet OS is official. This does not suck!

I've compared my Evo pictures to someone's iPhone 4 pictures, and on first glance they're comparable. But if you really examine the color reproduction and detail, the iPhone produces better images. For me, this difference isn't huge, but pretty much every review holds up the iPhone 4 camera as...

Well Man, the iPhone 4 has a 5 MP sensor that does very good quality 720p video capture and photos. Better than your DSLR? Of course not. But good enough to replace your P&S for a lot of people. One of the big disappointments with the iPod Touch 4 was the much lower quality image sensor...

The iPad2 appears to have the same camera that's in the iPod Touch 4. It's 720p, but it's 960 X 720p, not 1280 X 720p of true HD video. Plus it's pretty grainy looking if my wife's iPod Touch (and the previews) is any indication.

It's not to say some programs can't be optimized to take advantage of the extra screen real estate, but running the phone apps on a larger screen work perfectly fine with Android. This isn't the case with iPhone apps on the iPad, and if that's your point of reference, I can understand why you...

Part of the iOS users misconception is that there some huge gulf between tablet apps and phone apps because pixel doubling on the iPad results in an ugly, unsatisfying experience. But most, and I mean like 80%-90% of Android apps scale very well on larger tablet resolutions. So it's not nearly...

Dave, I'm guessing you've never used a Blackberry, because the back button in Android basically replicates the back button from the Blackberry. As you drill down further into menus, the back button takes you back up the tree. It's context specific as well, so in browsers it will take you back...

Dave, I believe by cached maps Man is referring to the ability to use Google Maps offline. So if you have a wifi only tablet, you can cache the route at home and then use it on the road without needing to pull in the data. The old Maps required multiple versions of the same tile for each level...

Both Moss and Engadget go into detail about the price disadvantage between a $499 wifi only iPad and the $799 off-contract Xoom seemingly unaware of the $599 wifi only Xoom and the $599 3G Xoom with contract. I know a lot of these reviews are written well before the street date and published...

The cost for always on access is more of a convenience than a necessity, but if you're in the middle of bufu nowhere and want to use Google Maps on your tablet, it's pretty nice to have.

3G Xoom $600 with 2 year contract: http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/22/verizon-announces-xoom-pricing-600-on-contract-20-per-month/ Yes, the data is limited to 1GB, but $1080 over 2 years to have always on data access in a pinch is actually a pretty good deal compared to other data plans...

Very surprising they couldn't get Flash working on Honeycomb before shipping their flagship device. Looks like Motorola and Verizon had ants in their pants trying to be the first one out.

Man, the Verizon reactivation fee, which has been pointed out in almost every SGT review, is in sharp contrast to AT&T and TMo's month by month plans where you can pay for data access at a month at a time without any reactivation fees. So you can buy a month's worth of data access if, say, you...

Both TMo and AT&T allow for the same month to month plans available on the iPad. Verizon, however, charges you a reactivation fee every time you want to re-enable 3G.

I don't think the tablet mass market is really a 3G/4G market. Anyone know the ratio of wifi only iPads sold versus 3G iPads? I assume that ratio is very high. So whether or not the $800 3G Xoom is price to fail or not, the fact is, even a $700 3G Xoom would be hard pressed to compete with a...

You're right Man, Verizon does not offer any subsidized contract pricing for the SGT. When they dropped the price again, all the other carriers offered it with a contract, I assumed Verizon followed along. Dave, the price drop is speculation on my part, but note that the SGT was released on...

It's almost a certainty that the Xoom will be $699 with contract within 2 months. Depending on how much juice you have with Verizon, you could probably get $100 off at launch with a 2 year contract.

I think for many non-engineers, the Honeycomb interface looks new and modern compared to the iPad interface, which is the same as the iPhone interface. That will justify the premium to many people. But I'm curious -- do you think the 32gb and 64gb iPads are priced to fail? Why should Apple...

Not really sure how a 32gb wifi only is "priced to fail" at $600. As Dave points out, it's competitive with a 32gb iPad. Unless the 3g version sells out at $800, it will likely drop to $700 after a month or so. Looks like they're chiseling another $100 from the early adopters. Typical Verizon.

This is indeed interesting. I had assumed the iPad 2 would have a higher resolution screen, but rumors are suggesting that it will be a thinner, lighter model with two cameras. In other words, a minor iteration. Which means that they will probably keep the current pricing structure and drop...

I wouldn't be so quick to write it off based on cost alone. The Galaxy Tab wasn't priced competitively, and it sold pretty well. If the Xoom can pull out one more killer feature it could still hold a lot of appeal regardless of price. And also consider that while the $800 price point isn't...

Technically, Dave, BlindType isn't predictive text as you actually need to type out all the letters in the word for the algorithm to select the word you're trying to type. Predictive text as it exists today tries to guess what word you're going for with the fewest letters possible. The...

The onslaught of Honeycomb tablets from every manufacturer is going to give the iPad a serious run for its money. And if the iPad 2 is just an iterative device with a camera and the same old iOS app drawer, it's going to look very dated but quick. Video chat over Google Voice could be the next...

The amazing thing is that MS couldn't come up with something like this for Windows desktop. I can see the need for a dual core chip, but I'd like to see more -- it's certainly pretty, but what does it do that Android doesn't currently do except nicer looking and faster, with the understanding...
