Thanks to all the hosts for a successful Parade of HT's! Thanks to the spouses for their patience too. Chad, I'm very interested in the progress of your HT and would like to help with the acoustics if you want some DIY acoustic panel absorber and/or helmholtz resonator assistance. I plan to buy...

I don't think we need a reservation at The Oasis. I may have an out-of-town guest Saturday. Also, who's up for poker Sunday evening?;)

Colin: I won't make dinner Friday, so please e-mail me the addresses for Friday. thanks!

With Nils' experience and my garage, surely we could come up with light control. CAUTION: big item to consider is if you're married, this gets into the WAF area of *window treatments*, an area near and dear to the ladies, so they have to be part of the decision process. If you're not married...

Colin, take my name off also. As Nils reminded, this tour is focusing on HT's that we've not yet seen. See you guys at The Oasis on the 17th. Is 1:00 okay?

Because it was suggested and a couple of folks said they prefer it. If the majority votes otherwise, then okay. Back to the task at hand: 1. Will you meet for lunch and the tour? 2. If so, vote for a restaurant so we can get that out of the way. 3. Are you volunteering your HT?

    May Austin HTF Meet.

Okay, it's time for a final count. The Austin *Parade of HT's* will be on Saturday, May 17th. If we do only new HT's, it appears that a good starting point may be Chad Anson's in Lakeway. We could meet for lunch at The Oasis, Iguana Grill, or Johnny Fins. FWIW, The Oasis may be the most likely...

Rich, welcome! Can you share just a bit more detail? You are certainly among the far West Austin group here (Nils, Chad, Ian, Jeff M., myself). We'll see how the logistics stacks up for the meet, and yes, it's looking like the 17th.

We could meet for lunch at The Oasis or the Iguana Grill (no overpriced margaritas for Dr. T this time;) ), then on to Chad's in Lakeway. I was just there and met Chad and his gracious wife- very nice folks. They are both DIY-ing a large dedicated HT - you guys will really enjoy seeing the work...

If we need to move it, the 17th works better for me. Nils, you're going to miss another ASB concert:frowning:

    May Austin HTF Meet.

Well, let's call it an election ended. HT Tour is the topic, with logistics to be planned soon. Without revealing addresses on the forum, select an order of HT visits. My time will be limited - 86-year old aunt and my sisters will be in town and I'll have to leave by 6:00 for the RR Express ball...

If a vinyl rig can be assembled, I still like *A*. Question: is there no interest in the commercial speaker versus DIY speaker "sound-off" and a little building or a topic seminar (I really enjoyed the acoustic treatment seminar led by the phantom Scott)? For *B*, I'm concerned about the...

Back on track, boys. Since I posted a call for votes, here's what I count: 0 votes The *Parade of HT's* is leading, but we have only 7 votes. Time to focus and plan - step up to the electronic voting machine!;)

Thanks a lot, Nils. When Eric is a teenager, I'm going to show him the stuff you put on him and exposed him to the world via the internet. THAT will be funny!

Keep the votes coming, you Austin HT-ers. Scott, you have a very nice rig and I will not participate in the "what constitutes a home theater" thing - it's a very personal choice based on priorities and of course budget. However, I will say that yes, there is a need for 5.1 (or more) if you want...

    May Austin HTF Meet.

Three possible topics for the next HT event, and two of them are new ideas - I like it. BTW, with the extreme masochistic overloading this group is into, am I correct in assuming that April is out? Okay, how 'bout a vote for a May 10 meet topic? Please everyone participate and vote for one of...

    May Austin HTF Meet.

Dr. J, that's a long lead time to build a pair of speakers. Is your outsource plant in Malaysia?;) It's April and we're talking June for a meet? Is everyone that overloaded?

    May Austin HTF Meet.

Yes, some interconnects are better *looking* than a lot of components. Careful with the turntable DIY fettish - it could still cost quite a bit. The unveiling of a new Mirus model? Cool! I don't understand why people are tied up the whole month of May, but if June 7 is best, that's fine...

Jeff: I can't answer your question here - it's against forum rules. We'll discuss via e-mail. (BTW, don't let anyone lure you with exotic, esoteric tweaks like velvet cable covers.;)) Jonathan: I'm up for the vinyl versus digital battle of the titans. Also, it would be cool to listen to a...

Jeff, you can actually save money DIY-ing your cables OR you can buy them from HF Soundwerks at rediculously low prices. I use primo Canare solid-core cable (overkill for audio) and Canare true 75-ohm connectors (yes I have the expensive Canare die set). Flex jacket color selection too. :D

I too would bring tools and hands to a DIY meet (I might even invest in a new electric stapler, since the demonically possessed one is now in the landfill). However, I still want to "hear" the difference between good digital and vinyl. Dr. J is correct in saying that comparing a commercial CD to...
