The Falcon just being right there on Jakku just seemed like an extremely contrived coincidence to me. It makes the whole galaxy seem as large as a small town. And I do have some issues with how easily Rey is able to steal it and can fly it (and later is able to keep up with Han talking about the...
I noticed that, and I really liked that little detail.
I saw it for my third and probably final time in the theaters yesterday. There's no way I could id either Daniel Craig or Simon Pegg, even knowing which roles they played.
This time I noticed Luke's Noooo! and previous viewings heard Alec...
Oh, one more thing I neglected to mention that I loved: The opening crawl in 3D was amazing. First time I've seen that (didn't bother with Phantom Menace 3D when it was released).
Yes, exactly. We don't get to see the people on Alderaan before it gets Death Star'd, but we know it's Leia's planet and it's destruction is personal. And agree about the confusing nature of the Starkiller Base. It really shouldn't have needed to use the energy of the entire sun every time it's...
I'm sure they'll market the hell out of it, but my guess is the fan hype affect on the general public for Episode VIII will be a bit less, considering it's only a year and a half since this one, and we'll have had another Star Wars movie (Rogue One) in between.
But I'm really glad we don't...
Some bits I loved, though:
Han using Chewie's bowcaster for apparently the first time ever and deciding he loved it
Han's "it's true, all of it" speech with the holographic map in the air (an especially nice scene in 3D)
Rey had a homemade X-wing fighter pilot doll in her AT-AT home, I...
Just seems way too contrived, the moment she mentions that an offscreen ship is junk, you know what it's going to be. And to coincidentally steal Han Solo's ship while on their way to try to deliver a droid to Leia? Small galaxy, indeed.
Second viewing tonight (this time in RPX/RealD) & I liked it even more the second time.
Only scenes that really bug me know is the Falcon reveal, and the destruction of the Hosnian system that we are somehow supposed to care about even though we've never heard of it before, or of any of its...
Hans's death was handled better than Padme's. Jeez.
My two most emotional points in Star Wars: When Han & Leia reunite in TFA, and when Vader turns in ROTJ.
I suppose even if Abrams knows, Johnson could change it if he has a different idea. It's not like THAT hasn't happened in Star Wars before...
Jeez, I've still only seen it once. I do want to see it again, in 3D.
The bit about R2-D2 having the map due to downloading it off the first Death Star is just silly and unnecessary. It makes more sense to say that Luke gave him the map, minus the one critical piece, with instructions to wake up when the rest was brought to him.
Or the "Bad Robot" intro...
Yeah, on consideration this was probably the best way to do it, but the silent Lucasfilm logo just didn't have the anticipatory aspect to it.
Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver are 9 years apart in age and look it - I don't think they could reasonably pass as twins.
It really seems obvious to me that Rey is Luke's kid.
I don't think redemption is out of the question for Kylo Ren. Vader killed millions of innocents, slaughtered children - and though he was "redeemed", he still had to die at the end. But I don't want to see it happen, his redemption by killing Snoke would be just more of the same anyway.
