The new enemy of the HD Formats is Noise Reduction!

Doug, I don't at all agree with your thoughts on soundtracks, many soundtracks are high fidelity in nature and are very high quality, lossless or uncompressed soundtracks are always appreciated with any source material IMHO lossles audio can improve the dynamics, details and enjoyment of any...

lossless audio rules, what is there to discuss :) and I do agree it should be standard bottom line, Sony is a fine example in this regard don't get down David, those who are not totally off the wall obsessed with A/V quality don't understand our enthusiasm most of the time, some like us and...

film used to make movies has a natural grain in the image, if you don't like that then you don't like films -Gary

I think a director will release his film how he wants it to look, for example Swordfish has processing to remove film grain and boost colors, BlackHawk Down has severe grain, it was the same way in the theater for both, bumped colors and shiny as plastic for Swordfish and grainy as heck for BHD...

The new enemy of the HD Formats is Noise Reduction!

I understand Doug, but to be honest I don't think we are talking about the same things here, the DNR and EE I am speaking of is not what you are speaking of in regards to the process to get to what we see on HD/BD etc. it seems you are talking normal processes and I am talking of abnormal...

EE does not bring out lost detail, in fact it limits it or hides it if you will to quote various websites on the subject of EE in regards to video, I find it interesting that the same idea I said above is in thought, that was my personal opinion that detail is lost: "In reality, edge...

I say the same for DNR as well, if a particular print wanting to be used is severly grainy, meaning not what was intended then it should be scrapped until a better source can be found, people really started to catch on to EE, but DNR is never noticed or mentioned and goes by unchecked how...

The new enemy of the HD Formats is Noise Reduction!

DNR and EE are not valuable tools, care in product from restoration (when needed) thru mastering to encoding what we see on the disc is what needs to be done right, EE and DNR is for lazy folks who are asleep at the wheel and in no way will they ever help a image look like what it should...

Sony is without a doubt the best studio as of the past 6 -9 months, goes for either format, their latest releases new and catalog are mind blowing, Arlington Road = WOW! combined with always PCM and/or TrueHD (without DN) and Mpeg4 at over 30 Mbps they are cerntainly getting things done, I...

I don't think that is what Ed was saying, just that we don't have to stand for it, sticking up for quality is a life pursuit for me ;) no excuss for this NR/EE crap, I do realize that it is most likely master related and that studios can't strike up a new master for each HD/BD release, most...

anamorphic scope is soooo nice, I miss it dearly on new films for those wondering, Space Cowboys is a fine beautiful example of a scope film on HD-DVD (as is Omage Man for that matter) -Gary

Warner is the best, bar none, always have been in regards from everything to masters to preservation and DVD, HD-DVD etc. they know how to get things done right ;) Sony is very very good as well, I would rate them second to Warner so far in everything HD wise, just my opinion of course ;)...

The new enemy of the HD Formats is Noise Reduction!

I have been meaning to make a post here about this for a long while now, it seems my negative comments on films are not acceptable any longer at my previous long time hang-out. ;) We have a serious knew problem with the fabulous HD/BD formats that if not corrected will utterly kill the format...
