I came here to post that very statement. It shouldn't be too much to ask for people to actually read Criterions statement, but I guess when you have already dug in your heals...
And if people didn't speak up about things that look clearly wrong, it's possible nothing would have been done to correct the issue.
The "this is director approved and you should all shut up" crowd should take note.

The scan was done of the full negative image. Criterion authored the disc to compress the full image into a 2:35 frame. Brian Depalma saw it and asked that the geometry be corrected, not to compress the image further. Criterion made a mistake in applying the...
These comments don't help if you aren't going to actually try. Because I'm not sure how you can say that unless you only looked for a split second.
The top pic is cropped on the side where the soundtrack area would be on an element meant for projection.

I agree that was an idiotic comment. What you are missing is that the comment was made in a sarcastic manner, meant to make people who are complaining about this release look foolish. Read the thread. That poster has a history of mocking others for criticizing anything.

What do you think of the MGM disc? I thought it looked just dandy and the color looked like pretty much every other version of the movie I ever saw.
I was never going to buy the Criterion version anyway but it will be interesting to hear what others like yourself have to say after viewing it...
