The animators make note of this on their commentary, pointing out that the "name" stars who get cast in animated films these days don't necessarily have voices that are all that interesting, which makes it tougher to animate to. And it doesn't really make a lot of sense. Sure, Robin Williams...

I've always wanted to ask Brad Bird what he thought of the lat Milt Kahl. He's written about in a somewhat unflattering light in histories of the Nine Old Men. By these accounts, he was a prima-donna who needed to have his kiester smooched upon occasion, even by Walt hinself, who knew he didn't...

Did Walt Disney do sequels to his animated films? No, he created a wide range of films with many memorable characters. Walt's philosophy was: "You can't top pigs with pigs." When requests flooded in from theaters asking for more Three Little Pigs cartoons, Walt surmised that it was impossible...

And if they aged the kids, you've now made the film a little less accessible to children. Which would be important if the film in question was Barney or Sesame Street or The Wiggles or some other property that was primarily concerned with entertaining children. The Incredibles is a movie that...

I think they did that already - it was called The Greatest American Hero.

Can't comment on something I haven't seen. I am, of course, deeply angered and saddened by the Eisner decision to scuttle the hand-drawn tradition at Disney Feature Animation. That's why I was one of the first 200 to sign the petition in support of Roy Disney calling for Eisner's ouster (I'm...

If that's so, how come we hear Samuel and Craig doing commentary for "Mr. Incredible and Friends", or voicing the brief Easter egg where they fight for the remote? Wouldn't that count as special features, or is that only for stuff where they actually appear onscreen? As a voice actor I would...

He says, "On one hand you could say, 'Oh, this is old school...'"...they're the past and we're the future." No, you couldn't say that. Generally when you use the "on the one hand / but on the other" construction, you are presenting two true statements, with the latter outweighing the former...

THE INCREDIBLES EASTER EGGS (Disc Two) MAIN MENU -- "Buttons and Door" (a montage of all the buttons and doors designed for the movie, cut together with an explosion after each image) BEHIND THE SCENES* -- "Tribute to Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston" (Bird pays homage to the 'old school'...

As I posted in another thread, Disc 2 of the DVD is Easter Egg city. On most of the animated menus, just wait for a bit and eventually a little OmniDroid Robot will appear in the top right of the screen. Hit the -> key and press enter for the Easter Egg. This process takes a while on a couple of...

Although if we are going down that route, I guess any actor with heavy makeup should also be lumped into that catagory, since the realization of that character would be very dependant on people other than the actor as well. I disagree -- an actor with heavy make-up is still the sole...

While I kinda understand Zemeckis' decision, the problem when you try to be too realistic with human appearance, is that it is difficult to get it right and people notice that difference. True, but then all animation is unreal in some aspect. Worked for me.

a mature and well developed 5.1 mix isn't necessarily going to try to constantly catch your attention with distracting "effects" that don't serve the goal of the overall presentation. I'm very pleased and in no way slighting the audio on this disc for not providing a more "active" surround...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Incredibles -- INCREDIBLY RECOMMENDED!!!

To me, it's like saying one day animated characters will replace all actors. But it could be. Final Fantasy attempted it. Tom Hanks tried it with Polar Express. The Polar Express is a grand experiment, and the IMAX presentation was a film experience I'm going to treasure for the rest of my...

Michael Giacchino, you got shafted my friend. How he wasn't nominated for Original Score was a crime, he should have won for goodness sakes. Maybe a snob factor, looked him up on IMDB, and a lot of the work he previously did was for video games, but that music was good too!:S The score for...

Anyone care to detail what happens in the "Jack-Jack Attack" short? And by the way, I'm no hero. I'm like Allan-a-Dale, singing about other people's achievements, telling you about people who achieved great things, and celebrating their achievement. The people who achieved should be your...

I think we're all far more fortunate to have two of the greatest animated films ever made released on home video in spectacular fashion within 14 days of each other. Bambi and The Incredibles are landmarks of character animation and we're blessed to receive such great home video presentations of...

Wouldn't it be more logical to compare "Luxo Jr" to "Steamboat Willie"? I'd compare "Luxo Jr." to something like "Gertie the Dinosaur" in that "Luxo" (like Gertie) has no plot, and is just a movement and character demonstration. "Gertie" is actually the better of the two. Toy Story to...

Considering the length and detail of the Miyazaki reviews, the Bambi review, and now the Incredibles review, I'm surprised the upstairs neighbor wasn't complaining about the constant non-stop "clack-clack-clacking" sound of David's keyboard the past week. UPSTAIRS NEIGHBOR (to landlord)...

Just some thoughts on the animation... After seeing John Lasseter's CGI animated feature Toy Story in 1995, I wrote in my review, "The critics have got this all wrong. They're comparing [Toy Story] to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Toy Story is not Snow White. Toy Story is 'Steamboat...
