Bit rate can be used as a general guideline.
A higher bit rate does not alway translate to
a better DVD. See;

It can be used to tell if the R1 and R3 NTSC transfers
of Monsters Inc. are the same or different.
I think the best thing to do is to wait for the R1, R2, and R3 versions to all come out and then rate them in a side by side. It will be interesting what the bit rate of the R1 vs. R3 vs. the R2 is?? Can Ronald give us the bit rate of the W/S & p&s R1? Can Paul give us the bit rate of the R2?
I would go with the R2 version for the DTS track,
(I don't need full frame version in the R1), the only
problem is that my Apex does a very poor PAL to NTSC
conversion.
It's ok for getting movies that I can't get in the US,
but for something so detailed the conversion would
mess up...
