If Spielberg is so concerned to save the traditional theatre system then maybe he should aim his criticisms at a revenue sharing formula that requires theatre owners to charge 8.00 dollars for a bag of popcorn and 5.00 for a soda in order to make money. He should be complaining about a revenue...
How is this attitude any different than the one the Academy has fostered for decades when it comes to "Best Picture"? That being, "my movie is live-action. So obviously it is more important".
As far as it goes, I see the Academy Awards as an award system for feature films that play...
Pretty tough to pick who should have won the animated shorts category. The one thing I can be sure of is that it shouldn't have been "Bao". Personally, I think I would have given it to "One Small Step".
Thanks for the link. I didn't realize that they had changed the subtitle to "A New Universe". That is why I thought it wasn't picking it up when I did a search.
"Isle of Dogs" should have won, but "S-M: Into the Spider-verse" wasn't a bad pick. I was sure that all of these Academy members asking their kids which one to pick would have resulted in "Incredibles 2" winning. Turned out to be wrong on that score.
Wish I could have seen "Mirai" so I could see how it stacked up against the competition. That is the only animation nominee that I was unable to see. Generally, I have not been disappointed with any of Hosoda's work yet.
Isle of Dogs should win "Best Animated Feature", but I still figure it will go to "Incredibles 2".
Best Picture will be which ever film is the "Social Sob story" of the year.
Frankly, there was a superhero film with a Black protagonist that deserved to be on that BP list more than Black Panther and that was SM: Into The Spiderverse. But of course that can't be allowed because some actors might get all butthurt that a mere voice actor and an animator could manage to...
Not necessarily. I think the film will be remembered as the one and only Superhero genre film to be nominated for a Best Picture, not for whether it actually deserved to be there.
I finally watched the film and from a purely objective point of view is was neither better nor worse than any the...
There is only two that will be remembered from that list: Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Panther.
And Bohemian Rhapsody apparently was a travesty when it came to accurately recounting Freddie Mercury's life. At least from the criticism that I have seen on the net.
I cannot dispute that. Not that I think "Black Panther" deserved to be mominated any more than the others.
BP is on that list for political reasons not because it deserves to be.
I'm one of those plebes who has only watched one film from that list of "bests".
And you can guess which one. It has Black and Panther in it.
The rest of them hold zero interest for me. To paraphrase Costello, "I am a baaaaaaad film fan". :)
Those "bests" would just cause me to do this....-_-.
This is the exact thing that makes the Academy Awards or any film awards irrelevant in my book.
Denying that 99% of films cannot be "Best Picture" because they are in genres considered low brow or for "the masses" or not in the approved format (live action) or they are "tainted" by who produces...
If I knew the site was reputable and all of nominees were hosted then I wouldn"t have an issue paying to see them. I just don't want to have to go to six different sites and pay six different charges to see them.
My last comment was purely on the sets design. It is just one ugly piece of work. Terrible in every way. Just an eyesore to look at as an example of set dressing.
Regardless of tenuous connections, that is some seriously ugly set designing. It won't be winning any awards for set dressing. Eye burning in both its look and the colour.
Frankly, they could make this show an hour long and it would still lose viewers. They are running up against a fundamental problem in that a generation that grew up on extreme sports and "reality TV" just couldn't care less to watch an industry show where industry insiders gladhand each other...
