Who the nameless nation represented is the least of this film's problems, especially when the whole mission being trained for reinforces one character's observation that pilots are obsolete.
It was funny watching his point being proved by the rest of the film.
The flying sequences were good as usual.
The writing was terrible as usual.
The "romance" scenes brought the film's pace to a crashing halt every time they appeared. Getting rid of them would have tightened the film's pacing considerably and it would have lost nothing by their excision.

I hope the this.sequel is better than the first one. I admit that I liked the film when I first saw it in its initial theatrical run, years ago; however, it has not aged well with me.
It is cringeworthy to watch now with only the opening sequence worth watching.
