    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

The frequency response was measured with TrueRTA "QuickSweep". This digitally generated log sine sweep only takes about 500-750 ms. Accordingly, it is easy to "beat the limiter" when using QS since the amp and sub spend so little time at each frequency. This contrasted against continuous sine...

Thanks for the compliment, Alex. I manually calculate distortion because some of the less expensive software modules on the market are prone to error in this regard. Manual calculation is essentially error proof (provided the data is valid), if you have a thorough understanding of how to...

    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

You're most welcome, David. I'd be glad to review the new SVS 10" model. And Geoff makes an excellent point; I can give you objective data, and my listening impressions, but the ultimate judge are your ears. If you are still on the fence after reading the reviews, user comments, and talking...

    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

The STF-2 is now sitting silently in the corner, and the PB2-Ultra is back to its normal music/HT duties. I'll have to eventually return the STF-2 to Hsu Research. I was waiting for the STF-2 review thread to wind down before I shipped it back.

Ron, in his infinite kindness, has bestowed upon me a PB10-ISD review sub. They are in short supply and I'll likely have to give it up to another reviewer after I'm done, but I'm getting one! :emoji_thumbsup:

Not me, buddy. Some guy named Steve. ;) I can't believe you didn't send me your PC-Ultra for testing before returning it to SVS.....party pooper. :frowning:

It's the underhung 10-layer VC. It just gives the driver all sorts of authority, even when being driven very hard. I didn't know you went for the PB2-Ultra?

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...er-9-2004.html The Secrets review of the PB2-Ultra is up. It was encouraging to note the reviewer and I shared many of the same subjective impressions of what the TV-12 woofer brings to the table in terms of sound quality, impact, and clarity...

Hi Jeff: Thanks for the props, and it's no problem covering this question. You nailed the furniture grade finish. The PB2-Ultra also has the single band cut-only PEQ feature; very useful for taming a single peak in the response curve. Finally, you've got the vaunted TV-12 driver...

That I don't need. There might be a little dust on the bottle, but don't let it fool you about what's inside. ;) Craig, I think you bring new meaning to the phrase "being moved by the music". :b Nothing to see here folks....moving on.

    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

Well, with your taste in woodwork and fine furniture, I would imagine the PB2-Ultra would trump the PC-Ultra's on sheer aesthetics alone. You know it's just a matter of time before a TV-12 makes its way into your home; my vote is for twin PB2-Ultra's. Although another B4+ would be "the...

We're "gettin' the Led out" on this July 4th long weekend, and I was inspired to add a few waterfall chart hotlinks (thanks to HTF members Rudi B and MingL), and three more music reviews. Life with the PB2-Ultra remains blissful, and it continues to impress with accuracy on all types of...

Yes, and the PB2-Ultra pulled nearly 110 dB @ 20 Hz @ 1 meter in my testing, placing it squarely in the hunt. Considering Yates uses a different test method (ramped impulse), it might do even better under his test conditions. Considering everyone uses different test rigs and methods...

    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

Thanks, MikeKaz! At this price level enthusiasts definitely want to see what they're getting for their hard-earned greenbacks. Sure, it IS an awesome sub, but I figured let's find out why. :emoji_thumbsup: Frank - JBL Pro Sound has been filling theaters and stadium venues for decades; it's...

Good move, Matt. I'm with Robb; the on-board amplifier really has become an integral part of the overall performance package on powered SV subwoofers. The custom EQ at each tune point optimizes the FR, and the HPF and sophisticated amp limiter protects the woofers from being overdriven...

Well, most subs are light enough to carry out; I had a 65 pound 20-39PC+ on hand for comparison purposes when we did the GP session on the PB2-Ultra, and that was a piece of cake to move around (and it did damn well in the 20 Hz test too).

Well, Frank is a special case...:b A single corner-loaded PB2-Ultra should be able to deliver clean Reference Level playback at the listening position in a 2,500 ft3 room. As an owner of a PB2-Ultra in a 2,000 ft3 room, I can certainly appreciate the case for headroom; still, I don't see...

According to Tom V, the inclusion of the TV-12 driver in the B4 enclosure did not result in a measureably better performance (and it added a ton of weight). OTOH, adding the TV-12 to every other SVS enclosure did result in noticeably better performance. The B4 is a different animal, that's...

Thanks, Mark! This is pretty heady stuff......let me see if I've got this straight. 1) The mass of the cone affects the sensitivity, but not the frequency response. 2) Inductance affects the upper frequency response, but inductance only has to be low enough to not affect the FR within the...

Steve, Dick, Wayne, George - thank you all for the kind words. George, the PB2+ is one hella subwoofer and you should enjoy the heck out of it. It IS a long report, Wayne; I'm glad you took the time to read through it all, and used the bookmarks. There are many things that were pared down as...

    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

Hi Zack: I knew you would be good for some excellent questions! My theory (which could be bunk, of course) is that the motor strength (the BL product) is exceptionally high on the TV-12. The strontium ferrite magnets have an extremely high field strength (B), and the 10 layer flat wound...

Actually, the platform under the PB2-Ultra has 4 heavy duty caster wheels. I had a few guys over practicing archery in the back yard, and they helped load it onto the platform. I cinched the PB2-Ultra baseplate to the platform with a tie down to keep it from sliding, and we were off to the...

Thanks for the kind words, Frank. And I think you've got quite enough bass at this point - let's see, eight 16-46+ and 2 B4+? Thus far, I've only reviewed what I've purchased....maybe that will change someday. Anyway, I think Craig will do a fine job on the B4+ review (a little bird on my...
