I'll probably get The Alaskans but REALLY hope they can get their rights in order and release 77 Sunset Strip, Surfside 6, Bourbon Street Beat and/or Hawaiian Eye. Won't get my hopes up. though.
That Minnelli Four Horsemen also contained a fabulously rich score by Andre Previn, some say his best. I'd have to agree with that as I'm constantly playing the CD. That movie was richly appointed, but the Ingram one is by far the best of the two. To my taste it's one of the finest silent...
PLEASE, Warner Archives, more silent classics like The Boob and Why be Good?! The blu-ray double feature packaging is a wonderful idea. I can't even pick possible titles from your library as there are so many possibilitie. A big thank you from silent fans like me.
Exactly, and not to mention the gorgeous technicolor epics that they will certainly leave to obscurity like The Robe, The Egyptian, Demetrius and the Gladiators, Story of Ruth, Esther and the King and Francis of Assisi.
I've studied this wonderful book over and over, must say that the "restored w/photos" WB VHS does it justice. Again, would just LOVE a blu-ray in HD of this version.
A real miracle for me would be WB Archives dropping a blu-ray upgrade of their previous VHS only "expanded version" of Von Stroheim's Greed. This has made regular visits to TCM and is to my tastes the best "panned photo" reconstruction I've seen, much better than the one used for A Star is...
Even more unusual is the CD, and I have a massive collection of them. Only a few burned discs have "gone bad" and only one pressed disc I can recall. In the early days of CDs many people I know treated them worse than the stacked records of yore, scraped and abused they played nonetheless and...
As for we undernourished historical adventure people:
Julius Caesar (’53), Scaramouche, The Prodigal, Knights of the Round Table, Damon and Pythias, Last days of Pompeii (’35) and The Silver Chalice. Just one someday would be wonderful.
Far more "pressed" discs than "burned" discs have gone bad in my collection. I suppose that contradicts what one seems rationally to expect, but for me it's a fact. Most heartbreaking are many Twilight Time discs, a good number of earlier Fox discs (two The Robes), only one Criterion disc, a...
Can't thank them enough for Land of the Pharaohs and Helen of Troy! Another ancient world epic would be delightful and I do so hope they consider one or two.
Have to admit for all my past bitching about WB's blu-ray slates this late June-early July one is the best yet for me as I'll be buying ALL of this fabulous bunch.
Had SO hoped for Helen of Troy and Land of the Pharaohs as the TCM broadcasts seemed lackluster to me. The blu-rays will undoubtedly be so much sharper. I don't have HBO MAX which some here have said looked MUCH better. Hope later next year means sooner than we think.
None of these necessary for me except Safe in Hell. Sure wish that WB would at least attempt something surprising or lend out titles they will probably continue to ignore to other more "adventurous" vendors.
Well, we do get the Nazimova/Valentino Camille on this new blu-ray which is fabulous. I imagine that's also an HD upgrade, which I'm super excited about. With rumors swirling about a future "well thought of sword and sandal" blu-ray from the archive I'm hoping for Helen of Troy or Land of the...
Got excited for one moment over the WB 100th 25 Film Collection, Vol. 3 Fantasy, Action and Adventure Blu-ray set but just more of the same old recycled crap and absolutely nothing from the golden or silver age catalogues. Should have known better. What a thrill it would have been with even...
I only discreetly admit that those DVD-Rs that exist are NOT from WB (although I have them). BAD boy, I know! The 77 Sunset Strips, Bourbon Street Beats, Hawaiian Eyes look great for the most part but sadly the Surfside 6s are mostly horrid and almost unwatchable. I'd re-buy the official...
My big question, as Thomas inquired, about the upcoming Camille is whether the wonderful 1921 Nazimova & Valentino silent will be a hi-def addition as it was a lo-def addition in the previous WB DVD release. Probably will pick up a couple of these latest ones, but still pleading for at least...
I enjoyed my Our Dancing Daughters BD in a recent viewing. Very glad they put it out. Of course, I love most silents which to me are a magic portal into another time. Again, though, I wish WB would make use of their Brownlow/Photoplay already restored prints which I've enjoyed in various...
How I wish WB would consider licensing to KL, who would probably welcome many neglected "A" films. Sadly maligned adventure/historic genre pictures are often in KL's output, thankfully, so fans might finally get such beloved works as Helen of Troy, Land of the Pharaohs, Julius Caesar, The...
