I am now beginning to think it is outrageous that "THEM!" has been released in its original form. Can't someone update the effects now and make it look better? Ants are a lot quicker than they appear in the original. Ants can lift many times their body weight, so we should see them ripping...
This brings up, again, the interesting point of Lucas wilfully altering our recollections. If you saw the films on original release and didn't know of the alterations, you may sit there watching the latest home video release thinking "Why don't I remember this? Am I starting to lose my mind?"...
Yes, especially in the case of the original Star Wars. Give us a single release (containing at least 2 BDs) of the first fim with all the versions, showing the evolution of the film. 3 versions maybe, all scanned at 4K with a ton of extras, poster etc. Doesn't this film and its huge fanbase...
Sounds like somebody's viewpoint got lost in the shuffel (or banned) over at another forum ;) , and came here to take out their frustrations. What a way to start off your membership - I'll bet the house it doesn't last. As soon as they realize that crap is not tolerated here, they'll go away...
This article has me wondering if any original 1977 prints of the film are even out there anymore. Did Lucas see to it that they were all accounted for and withheld?
When you consider Citizen Kane in relation to the time in which it was made, it is anything but overrated. I can't even entertain the idea of it being overrated today!
Many of the Baroque/Classical/Romantic composers did variations on themes of other composers. It wasn't considered a bad thing. It has been going on forever.
Kevin, what I was saying was, the fan edits should show the studios that there is interest for it, so why not just go ahead and release them legitimately.
Why pass up an opportunity to make your money back many times over, especially with the torrent of publicity headed our way when Episode VII's release nears? How much more would the original theatrical versions home video releases be financially rewarding, than the R2D2 keychain purse...
I almost envy them. The conversation might go like this: Hey, want to go see Star Wars, they're showing the first one, you know, the original - yeah, cool, let's go. They don't know or care that there are different versions, or whether it's film or digital. And they go and have a good time. :)
With the AFI Silver Theater showing a 35mm print of Star Wars: A New Hope this month, I found it comical that the theater included the Special Edition "disclaimer"!
"This version is the Special Edition released in 1997, the only version the distributor allows to be shown theatrically."...
A second hand store near me has the 2 disc special edition DVDs of Star Wars and Empire for 3 dollars each. Are these worth picking up? They include the original theatrical versions, but I know they are just letterbox. They are the widescreen editions. Are the theatricals really the originals...
If they do plan to release the original theatrical films, I'd like to see strict adherence to the original mixes, with attention to screen panning where applicable. The present Blu-rays are one of the few Blu-ray releases that are THX Certified, and I'd trust that as far as specs are concerned...
