KL Insider didn’t say the Weinstein Company. He said they are owned by Harvey Weinstein himself. So unlikely to ever have a US Blu-ray release unless/until he sells them.
That appears to be exactly the same as the German Capelight version (see thread "The Greatest Story Ever Told renovation" above) but distributed by Altitude Films, who seem to specialise in arthouse films. It has a UK PG classification (originally a 'U' when first released) and is also available...
I’ve always liked 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse as well. It’s a good-looking expansive production, out of the routine, even though Glenn Ford was badly cast (never one of my favourite actors). I have the French DVD licensed from Warner Bros which is in stereo. I believe the WB Archive DVD is only...
The Overture is included on the Blu-ray. No one seems to have mentioned it, and it isn't listed on the back of the box, but the Bugs Bunny short "Napoleon Bunny-Short" (1956) is included as one of the extras in HD.
I re-ordered "Colossus of Rhodes" from Amazon.de because I read somewhere that despite the box saying only German and Italian languages, there is an English language option which can be selected when playing it.
Well, having now received it I can't find an English audio option anywhere. Either...
Well it seems as though the Bronston films are owned by Samuel Bronston Productions Inc which is a company who presumably licence out the films to distributors who are prepared to pay the going rate. Considering the films have never been owned by a studio I suppose we are lucky that the original...
Road shows were still going strong into the late 1960s. I see that FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE was 20th in top grossing movies of 1964, way below EL CID but the problem was also that the film's production cost was so huge. What I don't understand is how THE BIBLE, a film I never liked, came to be...
I think PC Films was set up by a consortium of banks and DuPont who were owed money by Bronston. UK, US (Miriam Collection) and French releases for some years now have credited copyright to Samuel Bronston Productions Inc.
There's a posting today in "Friends of 70mm" on Facebook saying "There's a new, remastered Blu-ray edition of EL CID making the rounds. Yesterday I received the Japanese release, which streeted yesterday"....."The Japanese packaging claims this is a remaster from 'the original negative' but I'm...
Incidentally, I saw both films theatrically when they were first released at the age of about 10. Both films, with their big screen, colour and spectacle, had a long-lasting impression on me, especially at a time when we didn’t even have television at home.
I had a quick look at bits of Helen of Troy and Land of the Pharoahs having just upgraded my TV from 60 inches to an 86 inch screen. At that screen size both DVDs look appalling so the sooner both get the Blu-ray treatment the better!
I don't know if Atilla the Hun (aka Atilla) from 1954 has been mentioned in this thread. The film didn't open in the UK until 1957 when I saw it at the age of 11 and loved all the colour and action! I've not seen the film since then although it had a UK VHS release but nothing official since...
It wasn't intended to be family friendly. It was given an X certificate in the UK which restricted the film to over 16 year olds. The film was heavily cut, just to get the X certificate!
Release date for EL CID is shown as February 16 on Amazon France where it's available for pre-order. I've ordered it! I hope it's better packed than FALL which had almost fallen out of the torn package when I received it.
I now have the French Rimini FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE. It looks to me no different to the previous Blu-rays. It opens with the Miriam Collection logo, so no secret as to where the master came from. The book is very nice.
