The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Yes. Contrast and detail much better. Fortunately I have it on my hard drive as well.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Rights to A Christmas Carol are confusing. The UK rights are held by Renown Pictures Limited. In conjunction with the British Film Institute they mastered the film in 2K HD in 2015. Unfortunately, despite initially advertising a Blu-ray version, Renown only released an SD version on DVD but they...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Sorry I don’t have the facility to copy from my hard drive. I don’t think, given copyright protection of the Sky TV system, that it’s possible.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

I have the BFI version in HD on my hard drive, following a UK TV broadcast a couple of years ago. I've just compared it to the VCI Blu-ray. Detail is very similar although the VCI is has a darker image overall. The big difference and superiority of the BFI is that faces do not have the very...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

The version shown today in HD on one of the British TV channels (Channel 5) is indeed the BFI/Renown remastering. I've never seen the film looking so good, with excellent detail. Let's hope it gets onto Blu-ray one day.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

The film is being broadcast in HD on one of the main TV channels in the U.K. on 18 December under the U.K. title SCROOGE. Hopefully this will be the BFI restoration.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

The VCI Blu-ray lists Renown Film Productions, who made the film, as the copyright owners and states that copyright was renewed in 1979. The UK DVD SCROOGE is on the Renown label who will presumably have the best elements, which were restored by the BFI. It's just a pity that Renown have not...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Moviemail.com who I've often used, have it listed as £29.99. Not as high as Amazon but still an incredibly high price. I've never seen a single disc Blu-Ray at that sort of price but it's looking as if Renown do intend to sell this at a very high price point.

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Some interesting news from Renown Pictures which I received in their newsletter today: Some exciting news we have been given some funding by The BFI for a complete 2k transfer from the original film negs of SCROOGE (1951 Sim and Cole etc) so Renown are trying our first Blu Ray in November of...

The Definitive A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1951): Starring Alastair Sim

Reading this thread I was intrigued to check out a TV broadcast of the film under the British title SCROOGE on one of the UK channels today. It was the Renown Pictures Digitally Remastered 2012 version, presumably the same as the R2 DVD released by Renown, and it does include Mrs Dilby's...
