Very nice! You prompted me to look through my Trek paperbacks that I haven't looked at for years. I have the TMP paperback, but don't think I'll re-read it. Roddenberry wrote some embarrassing prose, as I recall.
One part of me agrees, Josh. But then another part thinks it might be fun to watch it uninterrupted in a theater with other fans. I haven't decided yet...
I was just thinking that, of the original and Next Generation films, I've seen them all in the theater except TMP, First Contact, and...
They've announced the theatrical re-release for September. So, I assume it's based upon a new 4K scan of the theatrical cut that's surely already completed.
The discussions are whether they'll release this new scan on 4K/BD, and whether they'll make the further effort to create 4K versions of...
I doubt they have already worked on this release. Why would there be a call to chime in on Twitter if so? It seemed like they want a gauge of how many consumers are interested in buying it before they move ahead.
It's not just visual work, but audio as well. They'd have to redo all the ADR (would they still have those raw tapes?), and remix all the dialogue, SFX, and music.

"...they sold millions of blu-ray sets of the original series at an msrp of more than $100 a season..." Really? Where did you read the number and pricing of the sets they sold? They must have sold tens of thousands of sets...but millions? And, how many people paid more than $100 per set. I...
Not to be pedantic, but it's not a booklet. It's printed on the inside front and inside back of the box. But you're right, it's hard to read (for everybody - disability or not), and we've complained before about why Paramount didn't just list the episodes on each disc. Also, check out...
Your post really belongs in the Season 1 thread, not this one. Still, I'm wondering why you don't just look inside the box? It lists all the episodes per disc there.

I was listening to the TMP commentary yesterday (thoroughly enjoyable, BTW), and I did notice a couple of times where someone would say, "Now, this is interesting..." followed by a minute or two of silence. Very odd...

Go to avsforum.com scroll down and enter Blu-Ray Software, scroll down to "Paramount to release..." and go to page 9 of that thread. They do look pretty waxy and lacking in detail, but I'll take a chance based upon Paul Warren's (you call him Warren, I call him Paul - let's settle on Mr. PW!)...
Thanks for the review, Paul. III has always been one of my favorites, too. It doesn't have the mass appeal of II or IV, but to me it's a perfectly constructed film. The writing, directing, scoring, and editing all work together to create a cohesive mood. It's one of those films where I can't...
Yeah, thanks for the link, Paul. I missed it the first time I read your post. That is a handsome looking set, and the feedback about picture and audio quality is very heartening.

I was going to donate my 2-disc editions of the first 6 films to a charity, as they seemed to be getting only around $6-$7 on Amazon. Yesterday I checked again, and because Paramount discontinued them, people are now asking $25-30 for some of the films! I have no idea if anyone will buy them...
When I see a split diopter shot in Wise films, the reason seems (to me) to be that he wanted the foreground and background characters to both be in focus. In addition to STTMP, he used it in Andromeda Strain and, I think, in Sound of Music as well.
That's my ignorant opinion, based solely upon...
